I have ruined my ACADEMY Mig-21 PF "Fishbed D" (1/48 Kit no. 2166) canopy.
How can I get a replacement for it, and in general, missing parts for Academy kits?
Help will be appreciated.
Cheers

That is the hardest thing a modeler can get. What are the other missing parts in that kit? Maybe you should buy another since a model kit must be a complete "kit". Parts should always be complete. Why not try to scratchbuild that part and other missing parts? I'm sure everyone here can teach you how to scratchbuild those.

It would be easier to smash mold one than get another from Academy. Here is how.
- Mount the canopy on a stick or piece of sprue tree and have it mounted somehow for freestanding (this isn't strictly necessary but will make it much easier.) Have the canopy mounted to the stick on the inside of the canopy.
- Heat a sheet of clear styrene by holding it over a candle for a couple of seconds.
- "Smash" or stretch the styrene down over the original canopy making a copy of it.
- cut it out from the styrene and mount it after it cools.

Thanks shonen_red.
The kit came complete.
I'm the one and only to blame.
I've ruined the canopy.
Buying a new kit maybe the best solution.
Rgds,

Hello TwistedFate,
I agree that buying a new kit will be better for my sanity.
I could never be a scratchbuilder.
Thanks for your help and patience, though.

did you check to see if they a contact section on the instruction sheet, it be cryptic like on tamiya's stuff, or yet again be like tamiya and be several pages long and obnoxious. look and the bottom of the parts diagram for your kit and look for the addy and fax number of the academy corprate headquartes in Korea. Most companies have a multilingual staff to assist us all thumb bone heads!!! but on the other hand you can E-mail me and I can see if the hobby shop conection here in Japan can help. So far I've been lucky in getting replacement parts(Tamiya ain't cheep), well happy trails and good hunting stug [email protected] there is my addy good luck stug

Flowers,
Try contacting one of their world wide agents. Please sure to specify kit number, part number, etc.
See http://www.academy.co.kr/en/index.html for an agent near you.
Here's a few email address that I saw (can't say any of these work as I have never needed to contact them)
[email protected] ACADEMY PLASTIC MODEL EUROPE GmbH
[email protected] ACADEMY PRODUCTS CANADA INC
In the USA
Model Rectifier Corporation
80 Newfield Ave.
P.O. Box 6312
Edison, NJ 08837
Or, call us at (732)225-2100.
Good luck,
SCUD Hunter
