Post your 3 pictures for the June Model of the Month competition Here.

Post your, single, picture for voting purposes here

Rules for the new Model of the Month. Please read before posting

1. Entries must be of your own work.
2. The model must be of an aircraft.
3. The model can be in any scale and in any medium.
4. The model can be “out of the box”, scratch built, or anything in between.
5. The model must be finished within the month for which it is entered. The model could have been started some time before the MOM for which it is entered, it is the month in which it is actually finished that counts. So if it isn't finished this month it may be ready for next month or the month after
6. 1 picture is to be uploaded into the relevant gallery and titled with what the model is of, I.E. VS Spitfire Mk Vc. No composites. This picture must be of just the model, no base. (For a model posed in the "in Flight" configuration" a small stand is allowed which can be used to either support the model or as a counter weight. A beaching dolly can be used for a float plane.
7. A thread will be opened in the general aircraft forum in which you MUST add up to 3 further pictures and you MAY add details about the build. The model can appear on a base or even in a diorama in this thread. Pictures must not be larger than 700 pixels wide, in either the gallery or the information thread. If you wish to post further pictures then open your own thread.
8. Pictures of models can be placed in the gallery from the first of the month until the penultimate day of the month (the next to last day) (see “5” above). (This is to avoid the time zone difference, I'm working on GMT)
9. Voting will take place over the first half of the next month, closing on the 16th. (This will be between 18.00 and 00.01 GMT)
10. A member winning one month cannot win the following month.
11. Dragon are sponsoring this from June 2007.
12. Staff members of the Kitmaker group of sites cannot enter.
13. The rules will be added to when and if it is deemed necessary.
14. Any none complience with these rules may result in disqualification.
15. Ignorance of these rules is not an excuse for not abiding by them.

Ok, here is my entry: a 1/48 Smer Sopwith Camel.

I was working on this model when I received the Eduard's Camel, of the comparison of the two I realized that even with my best efforts I could never achieve the same level of detail of the Eduard's kit. A bit disappointed, I abandoned my almost finished model.

I couple of months ago I found the unfinished model and I decided that it wasn't too bad after all so I decided to finish it in the markings of the Belgian ace Jean Olieslangers.

Here is the list of the improvements:

- I detailed the cockpit
- I Completely reworked fuselage and wings to match the Camel Datafile plans.
- I cut and repositioned the ailerons and elevators.
- I replaced the Vickers guns with resin copies of the Dragon's Spad XIII guns.
- I scratchbuilt the landing gear, the wind driven generator and the tail skid.
- I replaced the kit's wheels with the "extra" pair of the Eduard's Kit.
- I used the Aeroclub's (UK) Clerget engine.
- The propeller is a resin copy of the Eduard's Camel one .
- I used the control horns of the Part etched set and the gunsights from Fotocut.
- I painted the personal markings over the cowling and the tailplane. I also painted the wing cockades and rudder stripes (I couldn't match the color of the decals)

I hope you like it!

Thanks Terri !, I spent many hours working on this model and you are right about the WWI Smer kits, the only one I am planing to build is the Ansaldo SVA 5. It's the best or I should say not so bad of the whole line.....

Best regards,

Claudio

Revell's 1/48 Eurofighter Typhoon built out of box with the exception of missile rails from the spares bin for the 2 AIM 132 ASSRAM missiles.

Very nice camel. I've been very reluctant to do WWI subjects. When I was a kid I I did the balsa kits, but plastic always looked too "Thick" if you know what I mean. How did you do the rigging? Drill holes or glue?

Thanks TheUman,

I always liked WWI planes but I was a WWII-Korea modeler mainly because WWI available kits were really crude but when Blue Max and Eduard started to release 1/48 WWI kits I changed the target of my builds to WWI (from time to time I build a WWII or a Korea plane but just to "rest" from multiple wings and rigging).

Today, companies like Special Hobby, Eduard and Roden achieved a level of detail comparable to Tamiya-Hasegawa kits. Now, is easier to avoid the "thick-crude" appearance of the old WWI kits.
If you are interested in WWI modeling you should start with a easy plane like the Dragon's Fokker Dr.1 (very few wires) or the Roden's Junkers D.1 (a monoplane). Check this build:

http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/models/34138-need-quick-build-1-48-roden-junkers-d1.html

About the rigging, I use a very thin plastic thread, a 0.25 mm drill and cyanocrilate (superglue).

Cheers !

My appologies guys I had a bereavement in the family and hve been away for a while with no internet access and no time to sort out the MOM, or anything else for that matter, before I had to leave.

So the June MOM hasn't been voted on and we have a couple of entries that, understandably have found there way in here. So:
1. I will start the voting today and it will go on until the end of the month.
2. I will delete the "July" entries, tigger917 and dcandal, from here and the gallery and they can re-enter in the July MOM.

Once again sorry for the mix up I hope that this will sort it out.
