I've just finished this Tamiya 1/48 F4U corsair in Royal Navy Far East colour scheme. It was painted using Xtracrylics Glodd Sea Blue XA1121. I airbrushed lighter shades in the panels but it has lost a lot of this after the first coat of Future. I removed the wingtips as the folded height of royal navy corsairs needed to be reduced to fit in the RN carrier hangers .
As they were flown in hot conditions the gloss would lose its shine. I replicated this by coating the whole thing with Matt varnish and then buffing the fuselage and wings with a rag to give it a sheen. By only rubbing on the rib areas of the fabric sections it gives a nice contrast.
I have used a dark wash for the panel lines, it stood out nicely until it was varnished. The wash darkened down and it is somewhat lost. I should have used a lighter wash.
Any and all criticisms welcome.

Hi Martin.
Great looking Corsair!
I particularly like the subtle fading and the way everythings blended together.
I must tackle a Corsair myself one day.
Did you use Promodeller Wash?

Looks great. A light wash would give a sense of a salt water environment. Looks great as is though.

Martin you have a nice Corsair there and the effect looks really good. What carrier was this machine stationed on?

Yes Nige, I used the dark wash but with hindsight I should have mixed in some of the light wash as Carl suggested. The dark on its own darkened a bit too much under the varnish.

I believe it was aboard HMS Victorious in the far east towards the end of hostilities.
