I'm looking for images of Robert S. Johnson's p-47 C's "Half Pint" nose art. I'm bulding a Tamiya 1/48 scale razorback. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Matt.
Welcome to Aeroscale.
Robert Johnsons P-47 C2 "Half Pint"
41-6235 HV-P
Johnson scored 1 victory in this aircraft.
For the Tamiya kit you'll need the Loon Models P-47C resin cowling
RSJ and Half Pint.

For more information on P-47s make sure you visit the Aeroscale P-47 Special Interest Group.

Superscale makes a decal sheet that has Half Pint included:

The only only photo I have of the nose art is below. I hope someone has others. The only other photos are the ones of the damaged inflicted by Egon Mayer in June 1943. I included the only one that really shows markings. You will need to flatten the keel as this is a P-47C-2 (later models had the bulged keel). You will also need the early cowling. Loon Models has a replaced cowlings and the requisite cowling flaps for the Tamiya kit.

You need look look at the Aeroscale P-47 Thunderbolt SIG topic. It has lots of really good information. Lampie is an excellent host.

Wow, you guys are fast! Thanks for the photos. I have the Loon cowling- looks good. I'm going to do a few builds before I get around to this one. I've attempted one so far, an Eduard FW 190 a-8 weekend kit that went... badly. It's been a long time since I've built anything other than wargaming pieces, so that was a bit too complex for my skills. I've got another Tam. p-47razorback, and a f4u1-d, and a tam FW 190 a8/r8 to build before Half Pint but thought I'd get a jump on the build and couldn't find anything on the nose art.

Thanks again for the help.

Hi Matt.
I think you just happened to catch a couple of people online who had the information at the same time
Only thing I would add to Rex's answer is that all P-47C's were fitted with the bulged keel in the field,so you'll just need to use the C cowling, which incidently fits like a dream and you wont have any problems with it.
Heres one of mine which I used the Loon Models C cowling on.

Rex,

Any idea where I can get that decal set from SuperScale? GreatModels, Squadron and Hannats don't have it. Can't seem to find it elsewhere.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,

SuperScale re-released (if that is actually a word) as 48-1096
http://modelingmadness.com/scotts/decals/super/48th/ss481096.htm
I googled the following:
http://www.flashie.nl/T/DC/DC481096.HTM
Flightdecs in Canada is a good place for decals. The listing on their website does not always include everything they have. That is where I got my copy of the older sheet.
http://www.flightdecs.ca/

They seem to be out of stock everywhere.
They used to be plentiful.

Matt,

Please defer to Lampie on this subject. He could write a book on the subject.
