This is my model of the He 100H-1a, an aircraft I have never seen anyone else do before in model form before.

BTW, my model is strictly a what-if, there was no He 100H-1a actually built.

Never seen a model of one built... I've never heard of the design at all!

cool concept model. I take it this is a high altitude fighter design variant of the He-100?

Thank you Vance and Allen!

The Germans knew their Bf 109 fighter could not out turn the Spitfire, so after the Battle of Britain an emergency fighter proposal went out to all aircraft manufacturers to come up with a fighter design that could turn tighter than the Spitfire at all altitudes. Heinkel won the contract with a design based on the earlier He 100 airframe.
The He 100H-1a did not fight against that many Spitfires but later in the war saw a lot of action against the P-51 Mustang, P-51 pilots were warned to not get into a turning battle with the He 100H-1a like they did with the Fw 190 and Bf 109 because they would end up the loser, nothing could out turn the He 100H-1a.

Hi Les

Another great bit of creating cross-kitting! And superb photography as usual.

It'd be wonderful if you could write us an article about one of these builds one day...

All the best

Hi Les

nice photography, as always!!!

I do not like Luftwaffe 46 stuff (or phantasy in this case) so bear with me that I am not more enthusiastic One remark though .. I think this crate would not fly .. the tail is much too short so the center of gravity would be before the wing

well, as I said phantasy ...
cheers

Thanks Steffen!

The He 100H-1a was not just a He 100 with the longer wings tacked on...the tail was enlarged a bit and also the structure itself was strengthened which made the tail heavier than it looks. It was found during dive testing the prototype that the tail would begin to flutter so it was redesigned with a much stronger tail.
