Hi Guys,

Here is a 'Tony" that finished around two months ago.

Hasegawa 1/48 Kawasaki Ki-61 "Hien" (Tony)
3rd Chutai, 18th Sentai
Imperial Japanese Army Air Force
Angeles West Airfield, Pampanga
Luzon, Philippines,
November - December 1944

Model was built OOB and 18th Sentai tail markings and fuselage bands were masked and painted. As usual, I used Gunze # Silver for the NMF and the camo pattern was airbrushed with Mr. Color# 130 (Kawasaki Dark Green).

Overall it was a straightforward build. I tried to simulate a field applied camo pattern as a number of Ki-61s upon arrival in their assigned bases in the Philippines were given a free hand camo pattern by their ground personnel. In this case they tried to simulate "sugar cane" as this was plentiful in the Pampanga province and in Bacolod where the 18th was later assigned in late December of 1944.

Cheers,
Tony

A very nice Tony, Tony, I love the field applied camo and the fact that the markings are painted on. I am just about to start my 1/32 scale example
