Awesome so far!!
Please explain what paints you used and how you achieved your finish. Thanks!

Hello Max.
That is very, very good looking Mig 21 you got there!
How did you manage to bring out all the details, did you use a dark wash of some sort?
Is it from Trumpeter?

The finish on this bird is quite nice, and the panel lines are very well done! Is this really the Revell kit?
BTW, with all the MiG-21s around the site lately, I feel like I've died and gone to Fishbed Heaven.
Great work.

Hi! Thanks for all comments! I'm quite surprised that you really liked this model . Yes, Fishbed is legendary bird...And yes, this is Revell's kit and 1/72 scale.
First I painted whole model with grey and after that I used Revell's Silver. Next step was gloss varnish. I've heard that Revell's silver is much better than Humbrol's. I wasn't able to get Aclad aluminium at that moment and I really wanted to get on with the model, so I decided to use Revell's paint. And I don't regret that I used it...
I washed the whole model with black oil dissolved with turpentine. Revell makes quite good 1/72 planes and this one good example. But this is not perfect model! The canopy sucked, I had difficulties to assemble it because it was too thick and the seat didn't fit in.

Revell's silver was good but not good enough. Next time I'll buy Alcad...

Well, I can't argue with your choice of paint. It certainly looks good!
I do have to agree that the radome looks like it is set back a little, maybe a bit too far into the nose of the plane. Other than that, the build is coming along nicely.

I checked some photos I found and I didn't see a difference.

The radome and the nose part are one piece in this model, so there's nothing I can do .

Since the radome moved in and out of the nose of the MiG-21, depending on flight conditions, you can find pics with it all the way out, all the way in, and somewhere in between. IIRC, the intake had just those three positions on early 21s, until the PF version, at which time the intake became truly variable.
I thought the "all the way in" look was a little too "in", but it really doesn't matter, especially if the parts are molded that way!
Your MiG still looks darn good. Thanks for sharing.
