Hi there guys (and Gals !!),
Just gotten hold of Revell`s 1967 boxing of the Curtiss P-40 E Flying Tiger in 1/32nd scale. My question is what`s the "bump" under the starboard wing ?.
I`d like to know so i know what colour it would be on the real thing.

which bump? the only big ones i can think of off hand are the ones that cover the guns, and that should be on both sides.
Unless you mean the navigation light near the tip?
in which case green or blue (probably blue-ish) is correct. this was a colored lens
you can get the best effect by painting it silver, and then covering this with clear blue (as per tamiya's paint) once that is dry. lay it on pretty thick since these lens were pretty dark
there should be a red one on the port side though.

Thanks for the pics bud,but to elaborate a little further this one is teardrop shaped and on the kit its dimensions are about 5mm wide by 10mm long by 5mm deep, the wide part to the front.
At first i thought it was some sort of RDF fairing, but what good would that be in China at the time !.

In the dim recesses of my memory I remember that kit having a large gun camera pod that was only used in training squadrons in the states. I don't know of any P-40s carrying it in combat.

It is the gun camera fairing. Whether it was in combat or States-side training only, I dunno.

Hi there
I've seen the gun camera fitted in a few photos of RAF Kittyhawks too.
All the best
Rowan
