Hmmm cool colour scheme, two wings, sea plane, WWI vintage and 1/48 . Ok, now why don't I have this kit yet?! Now where is my Modelimex login info. It was around here somewhere. . .

It looks really nice but I read bad reviews about this kit, check here:
http://www.wwi-models.org/pipermail/wwi/2008-August/076265.html
Stephen, When you receive the kit, please post a review with detail shots. I love the Macchi M-5 but I don't want to pay that much for kit with so many shortcomings.
Cheers,

I was reading this review recently and can say that his comments about the decal interpretations are correct. The decal dept should have purchased the Datafile to do it correctly. They put underscores where undeciperable letters were. But the absolutes in wing configurations may not be as out of place as the model page reviewer thinks. I will reserve judgement until mine arrives.

Hi Stephen
Is the old Hippo Models resin kit any good, accuracy-wise? I picked a second-hand one up a while back out of curiosity.
All the best

Greetings Rowan;
Generally speaking the Hippo resin items are reasonable. Eduard sells some of their Zeppelin kits. You remember the 1/48 Fokker D.VII Royal build? The German refueling cart (from that Eduard Royal kit) is from the Hippo line. Here is their website.

Cheers Stephen
Their 1/48 scale accessories look really neat - I'll remember them for future projects. It looks like my M.5 must be long out of production - so that'll make for an interesting build one day...

One other quick note. The kit & shipping only cost me about 44.00 USD. 1 U.S. Dollar = 0.678969 Euros

Ok the box arrived yesterday while I was at work. The postman holds the box with the clipboard on top and has my wife sign for the package. Then he removes the clipboard and walks away. My wife looks down on the package and its crushed at one end. She calls to the postman and he just keeps on going.
I took photo-images last night and will post them later. The box was not only crushed at one end but had two punctures on the underside. The good news? The kit was ok. the kit box was damaged slightly.
So somewhere between Modelimex and Denver Colorado they must use elephants to push packages or have them trained to sit with rubber certified stamps attached to their butts and stamp parcels. This has to be the idea of some eager beaver flunky in an administrative position.

I feel your pain on this one , had that happen to me as well with a kit .
I do have a question , now I don't have one of those fancy card things to use . ( That just might be a good thing ) . Is there any place in the States or Canada that carrie Fly kit's ?
I would really like to be able to get this kit . However , I'm reluctent to send a moeny order over seas .

Looks like a lovely kit, but for me too small (I only build 1/32 or 1/28).

Hi Terri, hi all
I'm going to Italy on September 24, my annual trip to see family and friends, so if you want I could check in some shops for this model, it looks so cool!

Review in progress. The top wing is actually not off by much (1mm) Though the ribs are mpre prominent than I like. That can be fixed easily. More to come.

Here is a bit of fun from another website.
"I purchased both the regular and the special color one; The upper wing has the right number of ribs, though they are prominent. I've not checked the wingspan, but beware the windsock profiles, all of them, since they tend to be somewhat deformed, expecially the 1/48 ones (I suppose this is a scanner issue, I wrote to Ray Rimell about this problem, but he never published any letter. . .)
The fuselage profile seems to be a bit out of shape, but surely should not be difficult to correct. The problem is in the special colour decals, since the Arcidiacono fuselage sported the writing "I casi sono due", while the model translates this in ich ... (I think this is the same problem of an avalaible 1/33 card model of the same subect). . ."
". . .Yesterday I've cross-checked the windsock 48 scale plans by Mr. Martin Digmayer with Airmacchi specifications of wingspan and length: the plan is about 2-3 mm too wide as regards the wingspan, so the model wing is close to the specifications (1mm too short).
I'm sure the problem is not in the Digmayer's original plans, but depends by the printing process and most of the WS 1/48 plans are afflicted by a non-uniform reduction in length or wingspan, that tends to be overexagerated when the plans are enlarged to 1/32 or 1/28 scale - I realized this problem when I enlarged the Hanriot plans to scratchbuild an 1/32 model of the hd1: the wingspan is 6 mm too short in 1/48 and this is nearly 1 cm in 1/32!
It seems that 1/72 scale plans in windsock are more close to scale, so enlarging them could be a solution, when a check is performed after the enlargement is printed. . .after this digression.. you can use the fly upperwing as is."

It just came to me. There are not any beaching dolley parts in the kit. A serious disappointment.

My hunt is over for this kit , I found one !
It is a shame about the tollys , they should be easy to scratch build , RIGHT ? !
