My first build was NMF (albeit not very good!)
There is a good article by Lampie on how to use Alclad II. I think many modellers like alclad II because of the many shades and the relative ease with which it applies.
Here is an ongoing project (experimenting with highly polished aluminium)

Hi Jan,
..the easiest to use has to be Halfords Aluminium - comes in a can, just mask and spray. I know that's not quite the answer you were looking for, but it does the job for me...
