Are the Academy 1/48th 109s any good?

Hello fellow modelers,
I'm on a bit of a roll at moment and need your input please.
My Hasegawa 1/48109E is at the paint stage and should be finished in a couple of weeks.
One of my local Hobby shops has got several versions of the Academy1/48th 109
for $20:00NZD or $14:00USD or 7:50 GBP or 9.50 Euro.
The Hasegawa/Tamiya equivalent retails for between $40-50NZD.
I like the look of Hartmanns 109(G6?)
Has anyone built any of Academys' 109 I'd interested in any comments

Cheers

Chris

The Academy 109s are actually reboxed Hobbycraft kit, which, IMHO aren't bad.

I have built several of the Hobby Craft kits. They are not bad. The fit is good and when finished they look the part. The only draw back is the detail is a little soft and the cockpit is very basic.

The Academy kits are quite good. I have build a number of them.

One important thing to remember is that the decals are effectively useless. They will not settle and adhere to the model. In my opinion you need entirely new decals to get a satisfying result.

If you have some decals in your spares box or are buying AM decals anyway, Academy 109s are quite good. Especially considering the price.

Hope this helps

Well, in the States:

back when the academy 109's were produced by hobbycraft and the cost $15, they were an excellent value.

now that academy has jacked the price by $10, I feel i'm better off getting the hasegawa 109s for just a few $ more.

but yeah, your situation sounds more like what it used to be like here price wise.
