I know, I know. You've seen this kit a million times.

Anywho, i decided to try my hand at my first WIPpage on the Kitmaker network. (keep in mind, im an armor modeler)

So, here are a few pics of the assembled cockpit. The only changes i made were cutting out the dials from the decal sheet and applying them one by one, and seatbelts made from masking tape. My seatbelts arent very good, you guys could probably do a much better job, but it is what it is.

Also, pics are a tad on the blurry side, so bare with me.

Hi Jon

the BLOG is an option when you start a thread (a checkbox above the textfield) .. I do not think it is changeable afterwards.

cheers

The corsair is such a nice plane, and it was allso my choice some years ago when I wanted to try something else that armor.

Have fun!

heres an update, but no pictures.

Lots of sanding and lots of cursing. The wings kept snapping off from holding it. now the fusalage popped off. grrrr. The reason is that i am trying a new glue.....go ahead, guess what my reaction is!

In all, its nothing i cant handle...ive been in worse jams before (putty zimmerit on a tiger i named "Disaster")

I really just want to get this thing on the spray table!

Hi Jon

well actually Tamiya is considered shake'n'bake (IMO it is) ... maybe you should try a special hobby B.339 Buffalo

do not give up .. all will come together!!

just ran into my first major disaster of the kit....it was bound to happen sooner or later.

The problem came up when i was ready to spray the white to the belly of the plane. The white (Tamiya) was thinned the same way i do with all tamiya paints, using its own thinner. It either came out in a pools, or came out in a splatter. No matter how many alterations i did to the paint consistancy, nothing worked. Any suggestions?

Hi Jon

Clean the airbrush completely!

see if the paint is properly mixed .. use the acrylic thinner for acrylics and the enamel thinner for enamels (what ever you use). If the paint is already grainy in the bottle buy a new one

For acrylics I sometimes mix clear gloss in a paint to thin it without loosing consistency and to make it smoother .. add a retarder if it still does not work.

Maybe you have water in the air hose (do you have a moisture trap?) .. also the air pressure could be a problem .. maybe play a little aroud with it

no other idea at the moment

cheers

Steffen-
First, i appreciate your help. You are always the first to respond to my (many) problems.

Down to the nitty-gritty.

I used Tamiya Acylic Thinner for Tamiya Flat White. I sprayed at 15 PSI and i do have a moisture trapp installed to my compressor. I also ALWAYS strip and clean my airbrush completely after each use. Perhaps i could add Future Floor Acrylic to the mix and see if that helps?

I still haven't an idea of why white doesnt spray well for me.

I still have no idea of what is going on

Hi Jon

First: white is one of the most difficult colours to apply, so just take your time and try out some settings psi and thinning .. also the distance between the airgun and the model.

if you have water in the air flow it will ruin your paint job .. no matter what colour you use.

beside this it is often the that the paint dries at the tip of the nozzle and disturbes the air flow and the colour flow. So clean this during your work (e.g. q-tip with cleaner). This is why I suggested adding a clear paint instead of more thinner, as glossy paint dries slower and will maybe help to avoid this cloging. futur/Klear should be ok .. already did that.

again you will have to try out a few things to narrow your problem ... this is like in medicine and computer maintenance sometimes (often) remote diagnostics is just not efficient ...

cheers

Hi Jon

I used to have no end of trouble spraying white acrylics but picked up this method. I thin it only slightly and I bump up the pressure to around 35psi. I mist on a very light coat and blow it with air to dry it before going back over it with slightly heavier coats. I find it works as long as I keep removing the paint build up from the needle tip.
