Does anyone know of any examples of F4-U Corsairs in a full or part NMF.
Any country, any era, post war racers etc?

Nige theres a profile in Kagero, Corsair Vol 2 of a NMF F4U-1D of RNZAF used for pilot training late 1945 SrNo. NZ5531. Roundals are an odd size!

Hi Luciano.
Any chance of a scan? Its for a friend in the states who is looking to build a R/C Corsair but wants to do a NMF.

Nigel,
"Mystery of the silver corsair"
From a very old and out of print "Air Classics" issue IIRC - most of the so-called experts claim this a/c never existed - well here is the proof.

Youve got me at it now!
I quote...................
"" NZPAF / RNZAF Aircraft Colour Schemes - Corsair Special" by Warren P. Russell. Published 1984.
F4U-1 NZ5526 and NZ5531 both wore overall Aluminium paint schemes. Anti-glare panel on top of fuselage, canopy framing and rear aerial mast Black. Propeller dome and cup on wheels Red. Main wheels were unpainted magnesium alloy.
These two F4U-1 Corsairs were operated by the Electrical and Wireless School and by the Central Flying School, Wigram, 1946 as Instructional Airframes
Additionally the Red and Blue in the Roundels should be a little thicker than shown in the illustration. The width of the Red, White and Blue in the FF3 type fin flash should all be equal. There should be a slight gap between the "NZ" and the "55" and another slight gap between the "55" and the "31". I do not believe there is a break in the "NZ", they are solid letters. Also there is no fuel tank sealing tape present in the photos in this publication.

Profiles anyone?

N.
Probably doesn't qualify as an "era" as such - but under re-build
