I'm new to modeling and have a kit with a celluloid cockpit dial array with a thin metal part with dial holes that fits over the celluloid and all are attached to a plastic background. How do I glue the metal part to the celluloid and then to the plactic control panel. Can I use Tamiya extra thin glue, or should I use a PVA glue? Please help. Should the background be painted black or can I use another color?

Hi John

I'd normally use PVA for something like this, because the joint doesn't have to be particularly strong. You could also use CA applied very sparingly, but be careful because the vapour can fog clear parts.

If you're a beginner, PVA is definitely the safest option.

All the best

Hi John

best is to use PVA. Others work too (Gators or cyan acrylate). The back of the celluloid should be painted white.

cheers

To stop the clear parts from fogging , dip it in future floor polish .
