Greetings all;

Today, while at the world famous Caboose Hobbies in Denver Colorado I was picking upsome brass and stainless steel wire. I ran across an interesting item called E-Z line. It is described as an elastic polymer that stretches upto 700%. I am doing some tests on this for use in rigging biplane aircraft. More later.

Hey there Stephen - I have used this stuff before:

It is nice, adheres well, but its flat so it can twist. Just one to be aware of. I would recommend it for 1/32 scale kits, it can look thick in 1/48 (the OAW D.III is 1/48 and the Voss D.III is 1/32 in comparison).

I found this about two weeks ago. Stretch Magic, .5mm/.019 inch diameter, Bead and Jewelry Cord. Got it at Hobby Lobby.

We probably need to make sure we don't use too much tension, to avoid having the struts fold. I plan to use it on the 1/32 OAW build.

Hey guys,

I love this stuff. I have been using it for a couple of years for 1/48 WW2 aerial wires (eg SBD and A6M) and swear by it. It responds to superglue really well, and gives much better results than stretched sprue (at least in terms of my abilities). Most importantly, it can stand the odd knock and bump without snapping. Re BradC's comment about it possibly being too thick for 1/48 rigging - I seem to recall that you can buy it in different thicknesses and possibly colours (I picked mine up on-line from Red Roo Models), but I might be mistaken. Anyway, very highly recommended.

cheers Brad

I just got some of this stuff yesterday in the mail

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000309YIQ

I haven't tried it yet to rig with (haven't started a WWI project yet) but I'm looking forward to using it on my Eduard E.II/III project when I get it. Its very thin and VERY stretchy...I had a hard time breaking it just by pulling on it...it must have expanded 4-5 times before breaking

I've used EZline on WW2 projects, its good but a bit on the thick side

Well, I did rig up my Albatros with the Stretch Magic, .5mm/.019 inch diameter, Bead and Jewelry Cord. Then a simple paint job with steel paint. Just a little tension on it and it worked great. I will be posting the final pictures of the build real soon.

Greetings all;

I ran across this "how to" and he discusses several methods including E-Z line.

OMG - My head hurts just looking at that thing...

Oh, and Scott, thanks for the link...I went over to Amazon and picked up some of that stuff. I'd heard about it, but never ran across any. Looks interesting.

Super find Stephen , I like how he shows from the simpliest way to ones who like to add detail to the rigging . Very helpful .

I do have a question about this ez-line . Been reading on a few forums from folks about this stuff rotten over time . The only way I can see this happen is if some one has used a lacquered based paint . Since the line is robber based the lacquer would dry out the line causing it break or falling apart in pieces .

Has any one had this happen before ?

To quote Terri: "Been reading on a few forums from folks about this stuff rotten over time ".

I have heard about it, but to date, I have not had it happen to me. My oldest kit with EZ line is about three years now. So far it is holding up well. It would be intereesting to hear from someone with first hand knowledge where this has happened.
