Hi folks,

I am in the process of building the V-22; you can view my progress in one of the links on the Modern forum. I have run into a bit of an issue while trying to find some good pictures for reference. I have gathered about as much as I need with the exception of gear bays. I know its a bit much, but since I plan on really attempting to detail it out, I would not want to neglect this area. Can someone please bless me with the promise land?

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks guys,

I actually have been using some of the pictures from both of those directories. What confuses me is that the pictures show a light ghost gray gear bay......the instructions say that the entire area is black. I am kinda confused in the respects that the pictures taken were of a prototype V-22 used for testing purposes. None of the active duty pictures that I have found show a clear shot of the landing gear bays. In shots from overpasses, even in videos, the areas seem dark but it may be that way just because of shadows.

So thats my major hurdle at this point.....light ghost gray or black?

Thanks again for your help.

I can't quite see black being used for the LG bays. The main reason for the LG bays on US aircraft being white for many years, was that hydraulic leaks (hydraulic fluid being a reddish color) would show up quite clearly on the white paint. If it were me, I'd go with the lighter color…

I wish I could remember for sure but I recently saw an hour long documentary on the Osprey and it seems to me that the gear bays were white. Most modern flying US military hardware takes that route.

Thanks for your input guys. I am definately leaning towards white. Usually, we should go with our 1st instincts but the instructions threw me off. Don and Kirby, thanks for the reassuring vote. Love you guys

No, seriously.....big time thanks.

They fly over my house every once in a while. (DFW area)
While rare, I do happen to be on the homestead now, and may venture out there soon. I'll let you know what I find out.
