Hi guys ...I just picked up an old copy of Airfix Short Sunderland ..Im thinking it needs some A/M parts...so far I have searched out :
Guns: aeroclub Canopy :SquadronS9192
P/E: White Ensign models, cockpit,bombay, extirior set
Am also looking for wheels,decals(kit did not include any)
can anyone assist me in sourcing parts?

I have the same one and this would be good to find out if and what are all available for it.. I have to go and look up what you have already found.

Kelly, a good resource Iv found here in Canada is a place calle Aviation World. Mark certainly knows his onions(and his kits)....He was the one who helped me get this far...I highly recommend them to anyone doing sourcing for projects.
I went on the Areoclub website yesterday and found the guns I think: Item #G018 are Browning 0.303 "flexi guns" as opposed to "fixed guns"

My kit was missing decals,and aftermarket offerings seem to provide post war aircraft markings such as Korea,and a French coastal craft from the 60's(!)
I was hoping True Details made some wheels for the beast,I am as yet unsuccessful in my quest....having said that I scabbed some P-40 wheels onto a 1:72 swordfish rather painlessly and effectively once!
The engines should also be replaced I think.....Aeroclub has Item#E072 for this.
My kit came with a little baggie with a couple of resin cowlings in it. I dont know if they were home castings or commercial offerings, but Im thinking the more adventurous might wanna try Vac-forming some new ones( or at least replacing the cowl flaps with plastic stock)

seems the site www.aviationworld.net is down for work just my luck.. I did look at the interior set and boy I would love to have it but like you mentioned you won't see much of it if any after built. I have not found any beaching gear yet either but I have been looking for pic's that would maybe help build some. are you going to enter the seaplane build? that is what I was thinking of doing with her but still about a year to go before that starts.

This is the first Iv heard of the seaplane build Kelly,as Im not from around here really...I mostly hang in the biplane,armour and ship sections of the site ....heres AV worlds 1-800 no....:1-800-668-1987. Mark is off Wednesdays and Sundays so dont try then ..lol...If I did enter the saeplane build ,Id do the Supermarine Walrus, or Swordfish in 1:48

There was a very good article by Bryan Ribbans published in SMI, December 1988 issue, on how to build and improve the Airfix Sunderland. It is reproduced on the Seawings website; http://www.seawings.co.uk/sundmodarticle.htm . The Seawings weblite also has a lot of extremely useful references, both photos and drawings, of Sunderlands.

BTW, the Falcon/Squadron vacformed canopy set for the Sunderland is a must if you start detailing the interior...

Further on the engines, Aeroclub E072 is the Wasp 1830, you may want E082 which is the Pegasus, and appears to be a straightforward replacement of the kit parts
