Have you seen the new Aeroscale site dedicated to all things P-47?
P47.KITMAKER.NET If you have more photos could you submit them for an "On Display" feature?

Hopefully it will be screen in the UK soon.

It was last night on National Geographic in the US. Just waiting for it to be shown in the UK now. Restoration begins in Jan - going to be fantastic and nearly all original.
It is on two other times over Xmas/New Year.
Here is the show's outline from Nat Geo
Wednesday December 17, 2008 at 8 PM
The booming noise is deafening. It is the sound announcing that an aircraft is about to crash. Henry Mohr also remembers this vividly as his P47 Thunderbolt crashes onto the surface of the Austrian lake Traunsee on 8 May 1945, the last day of World War II in Europe. "This is the end", is Mohr`s last thought before the ice-cold waters engulf him and his plane. Mohr`s Thunderbolt goes down in history as the final plane lost in combat by the U.S. in Europe in the Second World War. `Shot Down: Search for the Lost Fighter` is a feverish search for the wreck of the P47, commissioned by an American businessman; the task of salvaging the vanished aircraft would be a historic sensation. In April 2005, the aircraft is finally located. The Thunderbolt is in excellent condition under a thin layer of mud. The icy lake waters have preserved it well. Using special divers, floating winches and huge cranes, the wreck is salvaged in an expedition lasting for days. The present and the past converge in a film that combines one of the most exciting search and salvage operations with the fate of the survivors and their highly moving reunion.

Looking forward to hearing from Chris. Great model!

How can you dangle the carrot like that? !
Seeing as how I dont have Sky, just a freeview box. ( I work away on average 8 months a year so no point paying for nothing), I may be stumped.
But

they show these programmes online too I believe?
Anybody know anything about this?

A quick search shows that the program is called Shot Down: Search for the Lost Fighter.
I'll be keeping an eye out for this when it comes to the UK Nat Geo Channel. If you're lucky I may even be able to record it.
Not to spoil the plot of the show but here's the website for the restoration.

Hi Allen.
No plot being spoilt here.
I was aware of the website, which incidently hasnt been updated for almost 2 years!
Good to see that National Geographic are accurate from the start.
"Shot down"?,hardly!
Henry Mohr clipped the surface of the lake with his prop and bellied in.
Hope the accuracy of the programme improves from this point.

I think "Shot Down" may the title of a series of documentaries. Similar to the "Seconds from Disaster: xxxxxxxxxxx"

Hi All
Believe the programme is being re-shown on 25th July 2009 for those that missed it. (USA) Not sure which zone but assume national geographic channel again.
Trying to find out when it is going to be shown in UK/Europe.
Have a look at the website and restoration on
