Hi all.
Just discovered a site that has many of my profiles plus many I recognise by other artists and illustrators, some quite well-known.
All are labelled as the work of the site owner.
The drawings have been modified by cuting off any undercarriage and adding hi-contrast/darkening to lower shadows to obliterate any open doors etc.
The site is
ww2drawings.jetiste.fr
The proprietor is
Vincent Bourguignon
[email protected]
Luckily it seems all the profiles he has nicked, in my case, are of my older work. I don't mind anyone using my drawings but I do mind him adding his name and copyright to work that is not his.
So if you have any work out there, please check it out.
His site covers aircraft and vehicles. A very wide range in fact.
Many thanks.
Peter

Hi Peter
That really does suck! I take it you've contacted him? Other than naming and shaming him, short of going legal - which might not be effective or financially viable - I'm not sure how much you can actually do to stop him ripping off your work...
All the best

i know we down load info and share it with other modelers . But to take something of some one else work and calling it your own is just so wrong on many levels ! Asking money for it is even worse . I'm sorry here that this has happened to you .
It's plagiarism and infringement of your copyrighted work .
Better make it ten thousand camels !

This slob has been discussed before on another site, about his armor/vehicle drawings being lifted, and claimed as his own work.

I just took a look at your website. You have some very fine artwork in your gallery. I tried to find the website of the thief you talked about, but couldn't get there. I have had my design work stolen also, and it is not a good feeling. I live in California, near San Francisco, and saw a poster using my design in Virginia one year. I have a MFA from Stanford in Design (Graphics) and know the work involved to be at the level where you are. Good work. - mvfrog

Many thanks one and all.
On closer inspection it appears he has redrawn 'his' profiles using mine and those of the other artists as templates. There are tiny differences in camo and markings but not on all.
Therefore he could knock out say 5 or so profiles this way in a day, whereas the original can take 3 days work at least.
I hope to contact as many of the other artists as I can recognise and suggest a united action against the parasite. We'll see.
Many many thanks
Peter

I see he has a guestbook, would you like us all to start leaving messages regarding the plagiarism or should we leave it alone for now?

It's not right when some one does this. One deterrent would be to disable the right mouse click.

Rowan.
No I have not written to him ....yet. I plan to contact as many artists whose work appears on the site and see what develops.

Great offer and I am tempted, but I don't want this site dragged in to a potential mess. But I am tempted.

Great idea and many thanks for the link. I will check it out.

Tomcat31 that will only stop a causal browser. This guy is determined (since he is attempting to make money at it) and would just trawl the site for images. A cease and desist letter would be a start. I'm sure you can find a boiler plate one somewhere. if not i'll gladly look for one for you. What a bawbag he is.

A little up date.
I've emailed a few other victim artists and had a very quick reply from Ronnie Olsthoorn.
He is going to write to VB. And I will do the same.
Early days but watch this space.
Not sure if something is happening with his site but the armour pages are reported to be not working. I wonder if others affected are already doing something?
Cheers

Dan Johnson of www.Luft46.com has all the contacts of the artists and is going to see what we, collectively can do.
More as it happens.

Hello All: The site is still there but I was unable to find a comment box to leave my impressions of his stupidity. This will only bite him back in the end, it never ceases to amaze me how some people think (or better yet do not think). Peter, is the site Canadian or French? You and the other artist's are supported by many off those that frequent Aeroscale. Good luck with the issue in front of you.

Hi all,
Neither one nor the other. The guy is based in Belgium. If you go to the contact page, there's even his adress and phone numbers. It seems that he hopes to get clients for "his" work with his website.
The funny thing is that he shows how his work is inspired by books or the internet. Go to this adress...
www.arttech-vb.net
... and then go to Making-Off
If you want to buy some of his work, go to The Drawings and then Prices at the bottom of the page. Be carefull not to use his work without authorization as it is copyrighted!

Hi all
There has been some development.
I have been in contact with Mr Bourguignon and he has sent me examples of his files.
Indeed they show he has re-drawn the images even though they are for all intents and purposes remarkably similar even down to the camouflage colours/shades, code numbers and their colours and style, insignia etc. But they are slightly different.
Most of my original drawings that have been the focus of this discussion are on Aeroscale or www.Luft46.com site in the profiles section and can be viewed for comparison.
So accepting the fact that they are different I still ask why copy or re-draw so acurately so many examples of my and many other artists work?
When Mr Bourguignon has the undoubted ability to do his own originals.
However Mr Bourguignon has kindly offered to alter his images to avoid further confusion and to add a web link to my originals.
I am now happy for the moment so this episode can be drawn to a close pending Mr Bourguignon completing his promised actions.
We will see.
Many thanks to all for your help, advise and understanding.

Hi Peter
That sounds like a pretty good outcome if he acknowledges the source of his inspiration and adds links to your own site (hopefully, he'll do likewise for the other artists concerned...). I notice that Mr Bourguignon states:
" The sources are varied: plans of assembly of models, books, drawings on Internet... "
so he probably feels that he's been above-board, but going the extra mile should help avoid future problems.
All the best

Hi Rowan
well yes it's a satisfactory outcome at the moment. Of course it remains to be seen if Mr B actually carries out the promised actions.
And there is a growing discontent amongst many of the other artists, some of which I know will contact Mr B.
We will see, but at least he is now aware that he is being watched and his site is under close scrutiny.
Many thanks again.
PS On a happier note; I'm finishing off framing up the next set of profiles. Then I need to write a bit of copy to have it ready.
Cheers

My advice to flitzer and the other artists who post their work online is a watermark image on every pic. There are many free watermark creator programs through c-net.com.
There are some serious jerks out there just waiting to make a buck off of our work. Cover your assets as best as ya can, I say!
