Just thought some would like to see images of my 60% scale p-51D-5-NA.

22'3" span. Scratch built epoxy/foam over wood frame and spars. NAA parts and assembly drawings used for reference.

And I thought I was mad buying a 1:24th Scale T'bolt recently!

What plans do you have for the finished Mustang?

Hi Charles,

..I guess this is the one I've read about on the P-51 SIG forum. Didn't realise it was this big....How are you going to finish (paint) it. & what do the neighbours think about it? Mine would have taken out an injunction by now !

Originally concieved and built for a Texas air muesum, scheduling delays (and my own anal obsession) have it being finished and forsale, by me. Work is progressing since the photos were taken (initial coat of "feather fill") . We are about half way thru final prep and prime for final paint. Current plan is to finish it as Lou IV. We have been in contact with members of the 361FG Association, for controversial color input.

By the way, nieghbors have been very curious and have asked some very intelligent questions, for the most part. No one has complained, yet. When we moved it down the block to the local park for the photo session, a man lmmediately came up to have his picture taken in front of it!

We may end up trying to promote it as an attraction for grand openings, parties, etc. What would you guys think of having your soft drinks dispensed from a hose emminating from the right drop tank? And something higher in "octane" dispensed from the left? My helper, Todd (seen wearing blue shirt and shades in photo above)irreverently refers to the model as "the world's largest beer cooler"

Of the entire experience, I have learned a lot about life, and a whole slew of building techniques! One thing I appreciate about understanding more correct Mustang shapes is how little compund curvature there is! All of the curves and lines were cut with a hotwire on templates.
