I usually model AFV's but am also interested in aircraft ( a legacy of my younger days..). What is the difference between an F16 Fighting Falcon and an F16 Viper? I'm assuming the latter is a designation of the more advanced/ upgraded F16. Can anyone enlighten me...?

Hi Andy
AFAIK the Viper was the inofficial designation by General Dynamics during developement but the Air Force did not like it and thus it became Fighting Falcon ... the crews did like it thats why both names are valid. The names do not seperate between different versions/blocks.
HTH
cheers

Hi Steffen,
Thanks for the info. I'd never heard of the F16 being called a Viper until recently, and knowing military bureacracy, your explanation would seem to make sense.
Cheers, AndyC.
