Cany anyone provide some insight into the use of the Spada wood decals for things like the Albatross fuselage? I was thinking of getting some. Worth the effort or not?

Yes they are worth it . Give them a try , just remember that each wood panel needs to be cut and the grain facing the same direction . Prime the surface first with testors wood .

Hi Mike,

I've used the Spada decals on a few builds. The outer hull of my Grigorovich is Spada decals.

They are quick and easy to use, a nice alternative to oil paints. They have several grain types and scales available. Go here to see them:

Thanks for the replies. The results look great. Now, I will have to see if I can carry them off.

Just a note, I spoke with Mike at Misterkit and he could not have been more helpful and informative. Looking forward to getting the decals.

As a 2009 new year's resolution, I have promised to finish more kits and to try to post some of the results on this site. Since I just got my new sheet of wood decals from Misterkit, I plan to post the results of using them.
Does anyone have any tips for the new user of these decals. I am already planning putting down a wood tan base coat and sealing it with Future before applying the decals. Anything else I should watch out for?
Of course, the learning curve is always the highest the first time you do something, so maybe I will be able to educate others through my own experience.
wish me luck and Happy Holidays!

Mike,

I brush some Future on the part to be decaled just as you have done, and then let it dry. Before I put the decals down I brush on some Micro-Sol. After the decal is in place I put on a little more Micro-Sol on top of it then set it aside for about 15 to 20 min. while the decal conforms to shape. You'll probably notice the decal will have darkened a little after it dries. Then I put one more coat of Future on top of it.

Thanks for the tip. Do you cutout individual panels or use one long piece to cover the fuselage?

Individual panels look best to me.
