Mornin'all
I'm looking at a B-17 F c.1943. It appears most of the crew occupied areas ,with the exception of the waist ,would be finished in bronze green. My question is, would the interior of the turret frames be in this colour? I read somewhere that they may have been left in natural metal but this doesn't "feel" right to me!
TIA
Steve

Mornin' Stonar
Heres some light reading for a Sunday morning
USAAF INTERIOR COLOURS
My personal rule of thumb. Areas occupied by personel,( cockpits, turrets) interior green.
Wheel wells etc Zinc cromate. But thats just how I do it

Hi Nige
Thanks for that,I had already read that article. That's where I got the NMF waist area from! I think I'll probably go with bronze green or interior green internal frames(unless someone knows better).
I thought both those were differently tinted versions of zinc chromate green anyway.
This is for a future project so I have plenty of time to think about it and doubtless confuse myself further.
Cheers

Hi Steve,
FWIW, see these pix of the Pima Air Museum's B-17G . The I got some shots of the ball turret interior. I had some pix of a top turret, but they aren't showing up.
Not a Boeing, but here are a bunch of turret interior shots of a TBM-3

Hi Fred and thanks very much for the photos.
I knew I would get more confused!
I expected the various interior greens but not in the bomb bay. Also the interior frames of that ball turret look like they are finished in the exterior colour - presumably neutral grey.
Thanks again

Right folks I really have confused myself!
My problem now is the waist area.
I read that wartime B-17s had this left in natural metal with some structural parts possibly in yellow or green zinc chromate.
Every restored aircraft I have seen a photo of has this area in one of the interior green colours.
Is there a B-17 expert out there who can give me a clue what to do?
Ta very much
