I thought I would post this as my first contribution to this forum. I've been making models again on and off for the last couple of years but tend to get a bit bogged down. So I knocked out this 1/72 P-40 to get the juices flowing again. I always have mixed feelings about trying to weather planes so in this case I didnt bother. Any constructive criticism welcome please

Ben
Nice very nice,I'm nearly finished the same kit just waiting on some aftermarket RNZAF decals
Were the decals you used the kit ones coz, if they were you are a braver man than me to use them,I've had several recent bad experiences with Academy decals

Thanks Chris. Yep they're the kit decals and they were pretty well-behaved, if very glossy. Just the shark's mouth needed a bit of Microsol to conform to the nose.
I've got a 1/48 version of this as well with Kiwi markings - 15 Sqn 'Wairarapa Wild Cat'. But I think I'll be making mine up as an RAF option.
Cheers

Hi Ben,
Is it the 1/48th kit the Italeri one?Im guessing it is as it has the 'Wairarapa Wild Cat' markings.
I found the wing to fuselage join a real mission it took a fair bit of putty and sanding to get it at least looking half decent.
As a Kiwi and fellow ANZAC I vote you use the Wairarapa Wild Cat decals besides F/O Geoff Fisken was the highest scoring non American of the pacific war.
Anyway should you have any issues with the build I may be able to help
Welcome aboard
Chris

Hi Chris. I'm glad you said that about the wing root join. It's a bit of a nightmare. I'll start a build log to show how I go on with it. It'll be my second ever 1/48 and first try at panel lines .... fingers crossed. As for the RNZAF option, I hear you, but my three-year-old has a thing for shark's teeth markings at the moment
Cheers

Just wanted to say great job, and a great scale lol. I am a 1/72 scale builder. Like the scale very much. Your kit really looks good. Got to love that nose art don't you. Funny how the USAAF allowed nose art, even encouraged it; while the USN/Marines discouraged it. Oh well. Nice job. Russell

Thanks mate. Must say that the 1/48 I'm doing at the moment is making me hanker for another 1/72 build
