i just got a new model of hos3-1 from mtm and it has a vacuformed canopy.i have never built a model with this type of plastic,pretty new to models anyway, what do you do with this,has a lot of extra plastic around edges,any help appreciated.

Nothing special to it. Just cut the excess off around the bottom and glue it on.

You may find that it will help to outline the base of the part with a pen or a fine sharpie , hold at 45 deg/angel , Now use a new # 11 blade , hold this at the same angel . Lighty sore the line with the blade until the part is free and clean up with sand paper and dip it in future floor polish . paint the frames and glue into place .
