Can't remember where I found this, but it's ripped off from somewhere! It was probably a forum in which it is more relevant. Not too sure where I should post it either but it certainly made me laugh.

How many forum posters to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been
changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the
light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light
bulbs

53 to flame the spell checkers

41 to correct spelling/grammar flames

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another

6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is
"lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim "they" were in the industry, and that "light
bulb" is perfectly correct

156 to email the participant's ISPs complaining that they are in
violation of their "acceptable use policy"

109 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please
take this discussion to a light bulb forum

203 to demand that cross posting to hardware forum, off-topic forum,
and light bulb forum about changing light bulbs be stopped

111 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light
bulbs and therefore the posts "are" relevant to this forum

306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where
to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for
this technique and what brands are faulty

27 to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs

14 to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly and then post the
corrected URLs

3 to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to
this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group

33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including
all headers and signatures, and add "Me Too"

12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they
cannot handle the light bulb controversy

19 to quote the "Me Too's" to say "Me Three"

4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ

44 to ask what is a "FAQ"

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

143 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions
about light bulbs"

I love this. Gives me a good laugh everytime I see it.

I suppose I'd better point out though, being one of the two who could be loosely termed as "industry professionals" on this site, that the correct term is indeed a "lamp"

Im a "Lampie" not a "lightbulbie" afterall!

Sorry Nige but I believe that it should be "Lampie" and not "lampie". Lampie is in fact a derogatory name for a "lightbulbie" which of course should be "Lightbulbie".

This is so close to the truth, that we shouldn't really joke about it, but since we can joke about it, it's only close - not the truth!

But then pops the question - how many lamps would a Lampie change if a Lampie could change lamps?

A lampie would rather not change any lamps if he can get away with it - at least not until the next load in when he can do it without climbing a ladder!
As the other "industry professional" I would like to say that I change lightbulbs at home, which I consider relevant to this thread!
Cheers

Here in California it's just 'bulb, never 'light bulb' 'cause they're not heavy......
Besides we already went through thatenergy de-regulation scam.

And with me being another Pro it is indeed a lamp, as bulbs are planted in soil to one day become a plant, except in my case where they wither and die.

C'mon Nige,we really need to know what scale the ship is. Oh,and what wattage the lightbulb/lamp was!
How can we improve our ship in a bottle/lightbulb/lamp skills otherwise?

Is it possibly a luminaire or I am I thinking of a different version?

Can you get the same amount of lux from a light bulb,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, a lamp ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, or a luminaire.

Are there any lighting professionals out there that can shed light on the facts.

By the way is this a good link into this piece of real magic

Hi Nige.
A Luminaire is an instrument which emits light. You'll generally hear this term more commonly in theatres. Everybody else calls it a lamp or a fixture.
Lux is the standard unit of iluminance
Lux comes from Lumen.
One Lumen per square metre is a Lux.
Lumens come from Candela.
Candelas have their origin, as the name suggests, in candles. A Candela is sometimes known as a "foot candle"
One Candela is roughly the output of a single candle.
Candela divided by the number in a table corresponding to the sources(luminaire) radiation angle ( 5deg radiation angle = 167.22) will give you the Lumen value.

Lumens come in very usefull, and as Steve will tell you, a "Can Of Lumens" is a valuable addition to the tool box!
Standard Lumen Equation...........

Lighting Designer + Conversation About Lumens= Lighting Crew Vanish and Not Seen For Remainder Of Day ( This can be extended for the entire tour at the Crew Chiefs discression.

Anyway,,why do they call it a light?,,they get heavier as you get older

I'll err,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,y'know.............................get me coat......................

Jeez All these years and I thought an F was the standard measure of a lamps brightness.
As in,
" that's effing bright" e.g Icon
"that's effing dim" e.g Mac 500
Not a great empirical measure but everyone knows what you mean!
I'll go get me coat (again)
