Hi everyone.
I have got to the painting stage with my Trumpeter F6F-5N Hellcat and have started using Tamiya XF-17 for the final colour. Problem is it appears to be very green to my eyes. I always thought that the colour was much more a dark blue than teal. Any ideas? Should I just try another colour like Gunze 54? I only like acrylics but I can't get model master acrylics here.
TIA

Warreni,
That is the color. Perhaps you have a bad bottle or did not mix it well? What are you thinning it with.
If you can get Polly Scale down under, their 505092 USN SEA BLUE is an excellent paint.

Hi Fred.
I think I may have a dud bottle. Just as an experiment I tried mixing some X-4 blue in with it and it seems to have done the job.. BUT I will have a look in the hobby shop tomorrow to see if I can find the Polly Scale colour you mentioned. The coats I have already given it will make a great base coat!
Thanks again..

No, that greenish tint is the way Tamiya wants it to look. Tamiya's color isn't really bad, it just gives you a kind of "weathered" look that IMHO is pretty faithful to the original. That being said, I prefer Xtracolor or Modelmaster's versions.

There seems to be large differences of opinion on this colour as the Gunze 54, supposedly an equivalent, is very grey! I can't get Model Master acrylics at m hobby shop so I just went with what I thought looked right. Have a look at my build log to see how it came out.
