Hi all, here is my Night Stalkers campaign entry. I'm building the Tamiya Corsair in 1/48 scale. This kit has the radar dome mounted on the wing as you can see in the pic. Cockpit is done as is most of the major assembly. Primer coat is now on and the preshading is done. I'll try and do some painting on her tonight. This kit basically builds itself so other than a few minor sanding and filling of a spot here and there it's really flying along.
Here are some pics of the progress so far.
I have a few decisions to make on the painting. I have a few reference pics that show the bulb on the radar dome painted red, black, and some are white. I'll do some more research before I get to that stage.

Forgot to mention.....
This bird will wear the markings of VMF-532 of the Marine Corps. She'll be plenty dirtied up when she's done.

Top color coat is on. This is what the directions call for. Looks a bit light to me but having found no color reference photos I guess it'll stay this way. I have seen photos of Corsairs painted in this light shade of blue but not any radar equiped ones.
Gotta get the underside all fixed up now.

Very nice build. The cockpit looks good enough to climb into.

Thanks guys. Right now I'm waiting on the gloss coat to dry. Next step is decals and attaching the little bits and pieces, ie landing gear and aerial wires. Should have her all buttoned up in a few days.

Looks good, Hermon. You are making good progress.
I remember seeing pictures of these somewhere all dirtied up with oil spills, fading etc. Do you have a picture of the one you are building?
Looking forward to see more

Jesper, I don't have a picture of this specific aircraft. I'm working from a few black and white photos of different airplanes of this type in different squadrons.
Here is where I'm at now. Decals are on and final gloss coat is done. Next I'll add the flaps, windscreen, etc. Then weathering and a wash and I'm done.
I lightened the overall paint up a bit by mixing some flat white with Future and dusting the mixture here and there. I think it represents the fading effect pretty well for an aircraft opperating in the South Pacific. A dark wash to pick out the panel lines and some exhaust stains and oil stains will help bring it all together.

Thanks Lyndon. Glad you like her. It was sure a lot of fun to build. Being a Tamiya kit the construction was quick and simple, which meant I could spend the majority of my time on painting and weathering.
