I'm starting my 2nd Mustang build and went with the 1/48 Tamiya 8th AF set. I'm going to go with the "Lou IV" paint scheme. I have been trying to do some research on this particular plane with little results. Most of the pictures I have found are of the restores "Lou" with the blue coloring instead of the original olive drab.
Can anyone lead me to a site/s, or does anyone have color pictures of this plane. I guess even b/w pictures will also help. And any possible detail pictures.
I would also like to know a little history about this plane if anyone has this too!!
Excited to build my second model!
Thank you,
Kyle

I think you can find everything you are looking for here:
http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/1998/05/stuff_eng_ww2incolor_louiv.htm
Be advised there are a lot of opinions regarding the upper surface colors.
Also, it was not known what the starboard side looked like. It had a different name on the nose.

Hi Kyle,
An excellent choice, I'm doing the same scheme. Here is the model masked prior to adding the olive green.
I do have more pics but at the moment I can't find them. The olive green is painted and I'm in the process of masking the star and bar insignia and the codes.
I'll have a look to see if any of the references that I tracked down are as good as those that Rex as posted and post them too

Thanks to the both of you. The references are a great help with the color and the history.
Mal which model manufacture is your P-51 pictured above. Is yours also the Tamiya. I would love to see more pics if you can find them.
Thanks again. Looks like i have some history homework tonight.

Hi Kyle,
It is the Tamiya 1/48 model. I haven't been able to find the pics that I took but I have taken some more. I will start a seperate thread so I don't hog yours. I won't be able to finish mine for some time as I'm hoping to move and all my modelling gear is packed away.
