Self-adhesive PE - any good?

Hi,

Looking at Eduard's newsletter of upcoming products, I noticed a PE set for Italeri's recent 1:48 BAE Hawk. To my slight disappointment, it's of the self-adhesive kind.
Having never used such a set, I have my suspicions.
What's the pre-applied adhesive like? Does it hold? Does it allow adjustments to be made after sticking the parts on?

To be honest, I don't find the idea of self-adhesive PE intriguing. Can the sticky stuff be removed from the parts, preferably without hurting the pre-painted finish?

As an alterative, I've been looking at Neomega's nice-looking resin cockpit set. That would probably take some work to fit, as it's intended for the earlier Airfix kit. And of course, the PE set has parts for the exterior and wheel bays as well.

Any advice, tips and pointers will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I've only used Eduard self adhesive PE parts once ( fw190 seatbelts) but had no real trouble with them
The adhesive was ok for securing the seatbelts and parts of seatbelts,
Was also ok when a part had to be lifted and refixed after I'd got the first try wrong.
But it wasn't good for more tries than this or if contact made with another surface ie skin-when that happened I used CA

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info.
Good to know if I have to use them someday.

Hi Eetu

do not worry too much about that stuff. The glue is pressure activated and in my opinion only a measure to push the price up. It is o.k. for laminating PE dash boards but almost useless for all other stuff and with Gators glue or CA you can get the parts to stick as usual. Touching the areas (only some parts actually have this glue on the backside) will harm the sticking abilities ...

just my 2 ct

That pretty much sums of my feelings when I first heard about those. Perhaps replacing "push the price up" part with "gimmick that sounds good on paper but most likely disappoints in reality".
