Hi Aeroscale fellow modellers!

I am building a Hasegawa 1/48 Bf 109 E4 for the night fighter campaign. The kit comes with the options of having the flaps down and the leading wing edges down/open. However, I do not know what colour the exposed metal has on the Bf 109E4.

On some restored examples it seems like the colour is the same as the wing colour and on others it seems to be RLM 02 or close to it.

Does anyone know what colour it should be?

I've got the same idea, but with the 1/72 tamiya 109. I ordered owl decals sheet for this.
Does they hasegawa come with a PeilG radar? Owl do a conversion set. But I can't see it
being too hard to do oneself. I'd go RLM02 like the wheel wells

Hi Jesper

I would go for RLM 02 on a normal aircraft from the factory line.

Field applied camo would probably cover these areas as the springs will push out the flaps. In this special case I would uses black/ top side colour, because of field application and of course camo issues.

all the best

Thanks for the comments, guys. So either RLM02 or black. I might just go for black as RLM 02 might create too much contrast on the finished model.

JP, the kit comes with the radar dome as a little clear plastic part. Not too accurate I think although I have never seen a close up of the real thing, but it will do for this model.

Thanks again for the feedback

normally i would say RFM -here its very simple after LDv 521/1 all interior has to be painted in RLM 02.
for further informations have a look in the Official Monogram Painting Guide to German Aircraft 1935-45
