Hi,

Am planning to start off on my Italeri 1/72 Bf 110 kit thsi weekend for the BoB build. Had a question in this regard.

The kit calls out for Pale Green(FS 34227) for most of the cockpit. However, going through a previous post, I saw that somebody had asked a similar question and the reply was that it was RLM 02 Grey.

Can someone pls clarify on the exact color of the cockpit for me? An FS number would be most helpful, since I will be using the color chip from IPMS Stockholm to brew up my paint(I don't have access to any model making paints here in India, I make my own after referring to the color charts at IPMS

Thanks,
BP.

I believe the color can be either RLM02, or RLM66 for early 110s it would be 02, but if built after 1941 it would be 66, with the struts, wheel wells, and inner gear doors being 02 as well.
hope this helps

RLM 66 later in the war w/ RLM 02 Struts and wheel wells. RLM 02 early war interior.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your inputs. Now that this problem has been solved, another has cropped up #:-).

When i check up the color charts at IPMS, it mentions in the German FS color section that during the BoB, splinter schemes mostly followed the 71/02/65(FS 34102/24226/35352).

The kit says European Green/Field Green/Lt Ghost Grey (34092/34097/36375).

Another website ( SMARK) says the kit instructions translate to RLM 74/75/76 (34086/26122/35622). However, he does mention that the paint instructions contain inconsistencies.

So, I'm giving out a call for help!!! Can anyone tell me which of the above to follow? I'm going crazy trying to find out which would match the one on the kit cover...

TIA,
BP.

While the above scheme would be common on Bf 109s, my limited references (i.e. Osprey Bf 110 Zerstorer aces, S/S Bf 110 in action) seem to indicate that the 70/71/65 scheme was used on the Bf 110s in 1940.

:-) Geoff is right 110s would have the 70/71/65 scheme. To confirm, RLM 02 for the early cockpit, the undercarriage remained 02 when cockpits were RLM 66 :-)
BP, thats going to be a quick build :-)

Hi Geoff/Mal,

Thanks for your clarification on the colors. I was really having a tough time trying to decide!

And yes Mal, I want to make this a quick and painless build. I have been really busy making an Academy 1/48 Mig 21 so as to be on time for an online contest as well as a submission for India's Independence Day at ARC ! (You can check out progress pics in my thread in the Rivet Review Section) Another problem is that the monsoon has set in here in India, and it is tough to get the model dry in the sun...

Also have an CQA certification exam coming up in September , so would like both these kits made up and out of the way by the middle of July.. I'll also see if I can finish off the Ju-88 A4 that I started off for the Luftwaffe Group Build on the way, and put it in for the BoB campaign as well!

Onward to the Bf-110 cockpit.... heave ho!!! You can expect pics by Monday morning .

Cheers,
BP.

Bytepilot,

I am a CQA! I am a Quality Manager for a CD replication and fulfillment company. Good luck on your test!

Mal is right on the colors, you should be in good shape...
