Hi all, as promised I'm starting a thread for the Tamiya Lanc. I'm planning on using the majority of the Big Ed set. So let me show you far i got so far.... That is what SWMBO refers to as Modelers ADHD. I had such bad expirience with PE the first few times i used it as an armour builder, that being said I went for what I thought was the worst part of the Kits and folded it first. I was intimidated bt the flaps being these large multi-folded peices that it seemed logical to attempt to fold them before i killed any thing. Most of these shots for this first post of the Starbourd wing, I promise to go into more detail with port side. Some Pics of the flaps...
The lower portion, I've yet to mount the end of the inboard nacelle, probably going to add it after closing the wing so it can be lined up correctly.
Inside the wing. Want to point out that if you do use the eduard set that each rivet lines up with a frame in the structure and that each side has an angle cut and points to toward the other. I had some issues finding the correct parts on the etch fret due to confusion with the eduard instructions.
Continueing with the wing I started assemblling the wheel well that fits inside the inboard nacelle. it is almost complete, and my thimb volunteered for the scale object. I honestly can't get silly putty to work for me as a prop kike chuck does so well.
Well thats it for this FIRST of many installments. I hope to back frequently as the Lanc comes together. I've decided on the nose art and i'll post a pic next time. Good day and thank you

Chris, I'm not chuck, though he was the inspiration to actually try and use photo-etch again after so many failed attempts.

Been fighting with wing fit all weekon the port wing with the flaps and the nacelle. but think i have it fingered out. you'll notice there is a small lip that is bent over in the pics. I circled it in red.
well for the nacelle to fit right it needs to stay up and flat. I 'll be putting up more picks tomorrow and hopefully I can eliminate a gape of about 3mm that i have noticed with that flap folded over. BTW that flap is the attachment point for the actual lower portion, I wonder if the angle is going to be correctly set with it in sitting flush against the wing, i forsee much sanding in my future. Looks great so far. I just ordered a Tamiya Lancaster and am thinking about getting the Edward big Ed set so will be watching with interest (already subscribed) is the Eduard set for the new Tamiya kit or the old one- are there any differences besides the props and turrets?
Cheers

Anthony, the big difference is you get the standard bomb bay, new wheels, cowlings with the flame suppresors, 2 choices of props and the alternate turrent. the kit does bennifet from the Proworks line with the newer nacelles and now the opened cowls can be put on any of the 4 engines (still only get 2.) The colour options are for 4 war time lancs with last being from the Far East command dressed in white. The decals are also updated and the nose art is done to modern standars set by Meteor production's PYN Up line of decals (they are now out of business.) The kit will build up nicely with the PE set, but like the millions of tamiya reboxings they only focus on one specific part of the kit to update. In my opion if you want a Lancaster built to resemble any higher level of detail you'll need the PE set. I'll go ahead and post the pics of the port wing to show the lack of detail there. I won't dare scare anyone with the still not updated interior.

Thanks for the info- the far east paint scheme caught my eye and the pin up looks great as well, I may have to order the Big Ed. What other aftermarket products can you get/recommend for this kit?. I tried searching for some resin wheels(true details) but could not find any. I'm Looking forward to more pics (the more the better!)
Cheers

I havn't found any other AM for this kit. the main wheels are gems and I won't be replacing them. The tail wheel will be my nemisis though. Just like the Bomb bay was my main reason to get the PE sets, the tail wheel has me looking at pics and trying to find an alternative.

So here we ar again at another update, still working out the starboard wing, but went ahead and thinned out and did some detail work on the the inboard nacelle.
Still more filling and sanding around the radiator intake and outlet.
Add the final bits to the starboard landing gear. There a ffew brake lines in the eduard set that'll be added in final construction.
Still being frustrated with mt fit and not wanting to do anymore damage to wing. I thought for a bit about what to do. I had full day of peace and quiet, Girlfriend spending the weekend with her mom. My first option was to go ahead and finish up a Luft '46 project; a Do335 Pfeil in ficticious markings; or move to another area of the Lanc...

...
Ok so i can't figure out if i should do a reich's band or not. Hell I can't even decide on colours if do a reich's band. What colours would a long range escort have for the Amerika Campaign if any? So on that note I moved inside the Lanc. If the gear wells are any indicator of Eduards desire to detail a kit the this is going to be interesting...
The kit pilot seat and armoured head rest are showing their age here so here are few shots of the updated eduard seats, I havn't added the seat cushions to the pilot seat as the back is leather and the pilot got to sit on his parachute. I'm going to add the back later after a good paint session.
Did some of the radio operators station.
Went to the bombadier are, but just started aswell.
The bomb sight is a gem!!!
The completed most of the pilots station and some for the flight engineer.
All said and don i got about 4 or 5 hours in before fatigue set in and i needed sleep. there was quite a bit of annealing done in the interior most for the throttle quadrant, pitch and mixture tabs. There are little baskets thoughout the cockpit that need to be rolled, but I torched (yes burnt to crispy critter) the first one tring to anneal the brass. Maybe someone will have a solution to the issue. Before much else can be done i need some black paint to finish out the flight deck. Fun times ahead...
Till next time Steve

Tom, I think the Eduard set is worth the price, I have a 4 day weekend so I may tackle the wings and flaps then. Most of the fit issues i've had are from my own mistakes an lack of forsight. But then again i've yet to commit any of the plastic to glue so i'm still in fair shape for now.
By the way, I'm fighting temtation to ditch the project for a few weeks... My MDC Tiffie arrived in the mail today. To quote SWMBO, " EWW!!! SHINEY!!!! ME LIKE SHINEY!!!"

Well, with summer ending and yet another move coming up it's going to be a few more weeks til i'm settled in and building again. I noticed That I have to finish the inboard nacelles to get the lower wings to line up with the eduard flaps when I was tinkering today. But there was no progress as yet again i pack away the workshop. Sorry guys, but this the third move i've had this summer due to work, I just hope they let me stay put for awhile now. Good luck and happy modeling.

What other aftermarket products can you get/recommend for this kit?.
Flight path do a PE set, and true details resin wheel set, Quickboost do various gun barrels, Paragon also do resin sets.
So plenty to choose from.

Looking awesome so far , ive always wanted to build a Tamiya Lanc in 1/48. Ive been to MOTAT mueseum in Auckland a few times to see the restored on there and its huge! I guess i also like them because of the family connection.
