Here's a look at Vector's stunning 1/48 scale resin Hs 126.

Great review Rowan.
Now that is a gorgeous looking kit, but can I get this without the Beloved finding out .

Hi Andy
Well it must be easier to hide than one of your MDC beauties, if only because it's smaller!
I'm taking advantage of a quiet day at work, preparing the parts ready to start the build. Sergey himself has very kindly offered extra references so I can make some minor modifications and do the 'A-1 in the Legion Kondor colour scheme.
All the best

Hi Rowan,
Very nice review!
That's what I thought, it's a geat kit... Uhhh I'm tempted again...

This looks really good, and i want the subject...but i'm afraid the cost is just beyond what i personally would pay for a 1/48 subject of this size. But i'm not doubting it's quality or even value for money.
Are ICM still doing a plastic one, or was that dropped?

Hi Andrew
I think the ICM kit is still on the way (at least, I haven't heard that it's been dropped), but I don't know a confirmed release date.

Hi again
Well, (apart from one or two other builds begging for attention! ) I can't find any excuse for not getting started properly this weekend. Certainly not a lack of reference photos - Sergey's sent me an incredible archive of over 600 pictures! Thank you Sergey!
I've got most of the parts cleaned up and ready to go, so I'll get cracking tomorrow. It'll seem almost like sacriledge to modify some of the parts to backdate the kit to a '126A-1, but the Spanish Civil War camouflage scheme is just too good not to go for. The scariest part looks set to be the canopy, which wasn't mounted on the prominent rails of the 'B and will require some delicate changes.

Hi there
Well, the sun's shining here for the first time in days, so it's time to do some washing!
It's always important to make sure any release fluid has been removed from kit parts, as it can interfere with adhesives and painting. It's particularly important with resin kits (although I have to say, I couldn't find any signs of a release agent on Vector's parts).
With the pieces washed in mild detergent, they're laid out to dry:
To for some coffee and to clear a space in space in the disaster zone I call my workroom!
All the best

Hi again
The wing halves assembled neatly - I used epoxy (rather than CA) to allow more time to adjust things. Once you add both sides together, you get an idea just how big the finished kit's going to be - the wing is deceptively large! - and although the fit at the is good, it does mean a lot's depending on an unsupported joint... So, I've added a balsa wood "spar" to be on the safe side:
More soon, all the best

Hi Rowan
Very nice review and progress!!! I concur with the "sacrilegious" part and would rather use the ICM kit for such a task but as I always say: suum cuique!
Wish I could afford such a kit and I hope Sergey will adapt the pit for the ICM kit ... once it is out.
all the best

Cheers Steffen
Are there any of the other schemes which you'd rather I did?
I thought the Legion Kondor would be a nice change for everyone, bit I haven't made any mods yet and I'm happy change my plans - they're all interesting.
All the best

Hi Rowan
I personally already have an African diorama in mind. (loong planned) I will do 5F+AK that is on the cover of "Recon for Rommel" ... lots of other great (colour!!!) pictures in that book, so if you do not have it yet: buy it!
cheers

Hi Steffen
It's a book I've drooled over ever since it came out, but I missed it's first release and then the price shot up horribly in the UK (although I have just spotted it for £50 - still, it was about £30 when it was published! ) . The poor exchange rate makes it too expensive to get from abroad now too.
I was tempted by the desert scheme too, but I'd need to find more details of the tropical filters - they're not covered sufficiently in the Mushroom book. I'll have to have a look through all the photos Sergey sent...

Err, what was the price tag of the kit again? .... nowadays I rather spend some money on good references than on another model kit ... OTOH I know the feeling of not buying at the right time ...
cheers

Hi Steffen
At £50 I'm tempted - but I saw the book selling for over £140 at one point! That's an outrageous increase - but I suppose they'd call it supply and demand...
I really shouldn't buy any more kits or books - I've already got more than I can keep track of (I don't have space for proper bookshelves to really organise things - but they'll be a priority if I manage to buy a place to live)! I often build a kit and then remember there's been a book about it sat in a pile for years!
