Hello all. I was lying awake in bed a few nights ago and had an idea come to me for a campaign build. Big Beautiful Bombers, or 3B. Bombers have been a part of aviation almost from the get go. Initially using bricks, rocks, hunks of metal etc. pilots did their best to bring the pain from above and this eventually evolved into what we know today as our modern bombing forces. Basic guidelines would be
1. 1/144 and up
2. Any country
3. Any time frame/era.
4. Strictly bombers. No fighter bombers such as the P-47 etc. Think multi engine.
5. Start date some time in early 2010 with a completion date TBD in 2010
Possible candidates are too numerous to list but just a few would be...
B-17, B-24, B-25, B-29, He-111, He-177, B-1, B-2...etc. etc. etc.
Well?? Anybody interested?
Thanks, "Q"
ps. To give you an idea of what is out there....

I'd be in it for sure. Even at this early stage i have a number one candidate for which model i'd do, that amazing Zvezda Pe-8 just needs to be built.

There is a revell lanc at the back of the cupboard itching to get built.
I was going to build it for the aces high. Wallace McIntosh with 8 kills.
But there are plenty of other candidates for that campaign.
Can you make it a year long campaign? Much more work in a big bomber like this.

Hmmm. A Swedish Hampden, Ju 86 or Caproni glass-house would be suitable, but then I'll have to move into 1:72. Hmmm.
I'll guess I'll have to look out for a Hampden. Those are so cool.

I both have a JU-86, HE-111, and HE-177 for this campaign, so I am definitely on for this campaign.
One additional rule you could make to make this a "true" bomber campaign could be that it should be multi engined AND with an internal bomb bay.

I would like to agree with Jesper on the multiengines, but wouldn't a rule on internal bomb bay rule out some hardcore bombers from WW1 and the twenties? Part from that, I agree on that thing too. Any ideas on that?

Thanks for the responses all. By my count that makes 8, including me, who are interested. I agree on the multi engine thing, but as stated, there are some really cool WWI subjects that would be neglected if there was an internal bomb-bay requirement. All we need is a couple more folks to agree to join and I'll submit it for approval. For dates... how does 1 Jan 2010- 31 Dec 2010 sound? Gives us a full year to complete these beasts. Thanks again for the positive reponses all. Much appreciated. "Q"

With one year to conclude the built I would definitively be interested to participate if I can find a suitable subject in 1/48 scale

Alrighty then. I submitted it with a start date of 1 January 2010, and wrapping up on 31 December 2010. Multi engine, any country, any era, 1/144-1/32 scale, post WIP pics, and a finished pic in the gallery, have fun! Now we wait. Thanks guys. "Q"
ps. I'm sure there are going to be "what if, and what about" questions arrise, but I'll tackle them as I get them and get a concensus from the group on how to proceed.

All the sign up has been posted. Time to do your duty! This should prove to be a good campaign as it will hopefully draw out some of those kits ofaircraft we rarely see built. I have already started formulating my plan of what to build. Only a couple hundred left to look at/think/ponder/consider.. lol. Thanks, "Q"

Enlisted !
I have a Tu-16, Tu-22, Tu-95 and a Tu-160, all 1/72, from Trumpeter, ESCI and Italeri.
I guess all fit in, i'll have to check for a free workbench, and some space to put the finished bomber..

I remember the original idea was along the lines of allowing dedicated bombers only. Now it says no fighter-bombers etc. Does a Ju 88 fit in, as it's a quite a multi-role aircraft?
I'm thinking Finnish here again, so it would be in mostly bomber/dive bomber role.

Seems like an A-4 variant would be no problem, a later Cor G series might violate the 'spirit' of the build.
I should ask too...
Is this multi-engined only?
What about dive bombers?
Cheers,
Fred

Hi Folks, sorry for the delay in replying here, I missed the replies. Attribute it to getting older As far as what is allowed, I would like to keep this as a true bomber campaign..ie multi engine, dedicated bomber a/c. I know there are several a/c out there that could be fitted as multi role planes such as my example of the P-47. The title of the campaign pretty much say it.. Big Beautiful Bombers emphasis on the big. So, just to clarify, multi engine, dedicated bombers, any era, any country, 1/144-1/32 scale. Thanks again for the support, and welcome aboard to those who have joined. Thanks, "Q"
