Hello. My name is Warren and I had my first bout of model-rage today. This ended in the premature death of my latest model I was building for the two-seater campaign on this great website.
After glueing the wings on with normal hobby cement I found some rather HUGE gaps under the wings where they did not butt up to the fuselage correctly. The joints were none to strong anyway and I thought I would wick some thin super-glue in there to strengthen the joints before I filled them.
Problem was that as I was wicking the thin glue in it was running out again.
This excess glued my fingers to the model quite well. After extricating my fingers and noticing the large marks left by said fingers I thought I would try and remove the fresh glue with some de-bonder. Bad idea. It seemed to attack the plastic and made it all worse again.
That is when the rage hit me. It was not pretty.
Thanks for listening..

Warren , we have all been there before and will continue down that path . A long time ago when Eduard came out with their Pfalz D.IIIa I pick up a kit . The build was going not to bad . The fit was prefect making me a happy camper . First time using Tenax and went really over board with the stuff gluing the lower wing in place . I didn't see where the glue was going and figure I wasn't using enough , Well I had glue running every where down the sides of the fuselage , made a huge mess of the cockpit , engine bay and melted my fingers right into the plastic !!! Man the plastic was turning into a big glob on nothing .................
Into the trash it went after trying to learn how to fly which it didn't !!!

I confess. My first Eduard Dr1 made me so crazy attempting to attach the bottom struts I smashed it to bits. Oh well. I bought another and figured it out the second time and my blood pressue returned to normal.

Ah.. now I don't feel so bad.

Thanks again all of the repliers. Don't worry vance, I could no more take it out on my wife than on our new puppy! Not a hope of that EVER happening. In my view men who hit women are not real men and all should be hung, drawn and quartered.

Terri, your description of the Tenex incident sounds exactly like my problem.

I am real careful not to apply excessive amounts of CA to my models. As for rage I have been very angry and been tempted to hurl the model against the wall.but I manage to restrain myself and just put it down and do something else until I've cooled down.I would be even more angry to view the results of my destructive rages on an expensive aircraft kit!

Yes Nick.. I got right back on the horse and started a 1/32 Trumpeter F-105G which is coming along fine.

My Academy Neiport 17 just needs some dtail painting and decalling, and my tiny little polish artillery tractor is ready for its final coats of paint.

I also salvaged all I could before destroying the Migs fuselage and can put all that stuff in the new one I ordered.

Cheers
Warren

Great re-start

I love f-105

But I love Nieuport more

(In the Nieuport:Which stage are you (building, painting and how % do you calculate?)

Nice comeback (love also to see pictures of the nieuport )

Cheers Nick

Greetings Nick.

I will take some photos of the 17 later on today. It has been painted silver but is awaiting the final touches like the matt coat, wheels put on and the upper machine gun. Rigging is done. This is the first Biplane I have ever done rigging on and it wasn't too difficult, even for a schmuck like me!

Photos later..

Rigging oooof!!!!!

But a finished biplane of ww1 is the best model in a model collection

Put the biplane near the F-105 and you'll see how the Nieuport can much nicier and authentic

Cheers Nick

Just wanted to say it's okay. I broke my share of models in the past too. Now that I'm on medication though I'm better. Ha ha. Just kidding. Sort of.

Anyway, better to take it out on a model than something animate huh. Hope to see some of your work soon. Take care, Russell.

What do they say about the best laid plans of mice and men, or that law of Murphy's? Everything was smooth sailing with the Nieuport until I came to the decals. Nothing really wrong with them but I have to do a little touching up with French blue paint as the decals of the rudder are a little small to cover the edges.

Hopefully will be finished tomorrow.

OK.. Here are the piccies of the almost finished Nieuport 17. 1/32 Academy kit OOB. Except for the rigging line! This was my first rigging job. Click on the piccies to make them a bit larger.

Sorry it is a bit dark

Nope.. Have to touch up the blue on the rudder as it is not large enough to cover all the silver... and I still need to matt coat it to protect the decals.
