Hi there!

Here are a couple more pics of Galland's Bf109E-3 under construction. The decals are cobbled together from several sets and sealed under a couple of Klear coats. As the original was repainted in the field, I've left off most of the stencilling, only applying what I can see in the reference photos - including the non-standard wing-walk and jacking-point markings. Even the swastikas are placed unusually. I've done a wash and will do a flat coat this afternoon, before trying some pastels.

The main assemblies are still only dry-fitted here, which has made painting easier but, obviously, there'll be some seams to take care of (trying not to damage to much paintwork!). I don't normally work this way, so that should be interesting... hmmm!

All the best

Hi PhantomMajor,

Yes, you've guessed right! It's the Tamiya 1/48 kit. I'm glad you think she's coming on OK, I've really enjoyed doing my first campaign.

As regards your replacement canopy, I don't know if there's a UK importer, but try this address:

Tamiya Europe GMBH, Werkstr. 1, 90765 Fürth (Bay.), Germany.

I've never tried them for spares, but they ought to be able to help.

Otherwise, you could always use a Squardron (Falcon) vacuform canopy.

All the best

Rowan you have a real masterpiece on the way there. I must admit I'm not familiar with the colour scheme you have done, it certainly does look impressive.

:-) Rowan,
From what I've seen of your efforts so far, you have the "touch". This is looking good and will be a corker when completed. The colour scheme is very interesting and is really well done. It is a pity that my Hurricane will blast this, and all the other 109s out of the sky
Well done mate, keep it up :-)

That 109 looks good, thought the camo pattern looked different until I saw these:

Cheers guys!

It's been quite a productive day... I got the flat coat on and it's given everything a nice "sheen". I've been busy pastelling some dirt and smears, but the original looked quite clean - that probably means I've overdone it!

I don't know about having "the touch" - my mates at work think I'm just touched in the head! Still making TOY aeroplanes at my age!! Well... I wear my anorak with pride!

That's a great link to the captured '109s - maybe we should do a Captured Aircraft campaign one day (any conflict) - I've got a decal sheet for a P51B in Japanese markings that I've been looking for an excuse to use...

As for the dogfighting... dream on Holdfast - there's an awful lot of us '109s :-)

All the best

I trust this is the Tamiya model? i ahd one of those but lost interest in it when i damaged one of the clear cockpit sections... still haven't got around to trying to get a replacement, partly coz i don't know where to get one... if you have any suggestions that would be great.

As for your kit, WOW that looks amazing and i can't wait to see it when its completed.

you can also order spare parts for tamyia from www.hlj.com might be cheaper as well

porky your kit looks really well but a tank would be better!

I am working on my second (actually the third because the second was eaten by hogs before it was even finished)... but my next project is going to be this same plane ... good reference, thanks
