:-) Well to make the deadline for the campaign (7th July) I had to get all the painting done by close of play today. I managed it with time to get well in with the base, I'm now fairly confident of finishing, just.
This update jumps well on from the last one because I was modelling in the evenings, after work, so no light to take pics. Here goes
White primer on, then lenses for landing and nav lights added, after backgrounds were painted interior green. Canopy is left off, ill explain on finals.
Lenses masked using Parafilm-M, pre-shading added (black)
Undersurface Sky applied and masked. The painting guid calls for a Sky Blue nose and spinner, but my reference says red. Nose and spinner painted Red.
Other side, you can see the pencil lines ready for the next stage
The kit decals supply the shevron shaped trim in Sky Blue. I trimmed off the carrier film and applied them as masks. First time I had done this, fingers crossed.
Other side
Nose masked, Dark Earth sprayed and masked, using White Tack and Scotch tape
Canopy is on, with an etched brass rear view mirror
Dark Green on, masking removed.
Decal masking was removed using Scotch tape
For those that asked last time, yes you can re-use the White Tack, I did on this. Inmy rush to mask the Dark Earth I failed to mask properly in a couple of places, showing as light areas. Not a problem, I will either incorperate this into the weathering or brush paint it out :-)

That is looking good Mal. Will you be adding IFF wires? Reason I ask is that although I've seen them on plans and drawings I've never seen them on actual photos.

Hi Mal!
Oh, she's starting to look SWEEEET!! I see what you mean about the red nose - I thought it was just the spinner... neat! (It'll give my '109 a nice colourful target....)
How did the Halford's white primer work out - any conclusions about it vs. the grey? Is it the same stuff - just a different colour?
I've never used Parafilm - only read about it in FSM - could you give some tips and sources for the likes of me!?
That's going to be one lovely Hurricane... it almost makes me sorry to be on the other side!
All the best
Rowan

I wanted to add IFF wires but my research showed none. I will be adding the antenna wire though :-)

Your 109 can have all the targets it likes. Will still probably miss though
I think the white primer is the way to go. I still didn't get the result I was looking for, but I know it's possible. I think that when using white primer the pre-shading might be better in dark grey. This will reduce the contrast and not require so much paint to cover? I have spotted another technique that I might try to adapt. Stay tuned :-)
There is a thread on the use of Parafilm-M. I haven't the time to look for it at the moment but I will try later (I'm at my Brothers house in Brum at the moment, while working at the airport).
Or look for the spitfire group build :-)

Thanks

The carrier film is the varnish layer onto which the decal is printed. It is bigger than the image so if you want to use the decal as a mask this film must be trimmed off, otherwise it will become part of the mask. Trimming this film is also a method to prevent "silvering" It is also possible to re-paint decals, for example code letters on aircraft that are the wrong colour, by very closly trimming the decal filme and airbrushing with the correct colour. DO NOT USE WATER BASED PAINTS FOR THIS. :-)

Thanks. Take a look over at the new aircraft campaigns that are starting :-) take the plunge, the water's lovely :-)
