Another way of correcting the Trumpeteer C-47 kit is by using the Airwaves Li-2 cowling conversion set (SC48-113) intended for the Monogram kits. This of course, is only in the case you are inclined towards Russian aircrafts... It is reasonably priced, currently available at Hannants, and I can vouch for its outstanding quality and accuracy, despite the lack of Russian-specific props. (I think the kit props can be modified to a pointier Russian-style blade standard)

In case you don't know, these Li-2 cowls look like the front of the I-16 Rata, but with different panel lines on them.

For an accurate Li-2, you will need to move the left entry rear fuselage door forward, or erase the left one to create a right side one... You will also need to add one square window behind the cockpit. More exciting is the possibility of scratchbuilding a gun turret, though the 2/3rd spherical shape will be hard to smash or vacuform... I just barely managed to make one with my very last piece of Squadron Thermaform (this great stuff is discontinued now...).

I think having a rear fuselage door on the right side is not compatible with the turreted variant.

Most people will probably opt for using the better Monogram cowlings on the Trumpeteer kit, but these cowlings are not quite perfect themselves, and have the ugly "stepped" panel line on the front...

Note that the Trumpeteer kit is much more accurate in fuselage cross-section than the 2mm too narrow Monogram fuselage, and this is very noticeable and hard to fix on the Monogram kit, for an inferior final result anyway...

A Trumpeteer problem is that the gear legs sit too deep inside their wells, which affects the way the aircraft sits. They are however metal and otherwise very much in scale.

Overall the Trumpeteer kit is much sounder than the much cheaper Monogram, but is getting even more expensive soon.

How Trumpeteer could throw their excellent effort away by ruining those cowls is something I'll never understand...

Gaston.

Wanted to let you know the Monogram cowlings are out of scale for the Trumpeter kit.
The Monogram cowlings are to small and will not fit the Trumpeter kit.
The Trumpeter Russian Cowlings are nice, But the New Resin Cowlings are for any
U.S. C-47 plane
That's why I made new one's.
The new correct cowlings are also just as thin as the Trumpeter C-47A kit.
There is no clean up for the resin parts on the new cowlings.
If anyone is interested in them you can contact me at:
