Hello All, I'm normally over at armorama but wanted to build a few planes. I'd like to pick up a step by step book that covers building all the way through finishing (decals, washes, etc) My question is If I were to only get one book that covered as much of this as possible which one should I get and where can I find it?

Aircraft in general or specific time eras?

Sorry for the late reply. I would have to say both. The kits I am most interested in are modern US stuff for now. I would like to also do WWII eventually. Would the difference in the books be primarily suggestions for certain colors or schemes?

For howto build and paint I could recommend the "applied modeling encyclopedia : aircraft". Starts with a basic build onto more detailed builds, plenty of snapshots.
Although I'd say there is nothing in that you wont find here.

ChukWs illustrated builds and Hawkeyes "Reading the seams" threads are essential reading. You can't get away with gaps and steps in a/craft like you can in armour.

For building a specific aircraft there are books that go through kit options and details to look out for
say a for 109 there are Lynn Rigters and Brett Greens books.

If you are looking for basics tips and steps I occasionally use Testors Modelers Technical Guide. It talks about pretty much everything from painting techniques, weathering, building techniques and super-detailing.
