I'm working on a Trumpeter Mig-3 1/32 and getting close to being ready to paint the exterior. Now I'm just getting back into aircraft after a, something like, 20 year absence and I've noticed a couple of techniques that I really want to try but not sure how they are executed.
The first is the subtle shade change on adjoining panel lines that reflects weathering. Is that done as a preshade? If yes, can I simply brush paint black (for instance) over all the panel lines prior to the main coat? I'm doing my Mig-3 in a winter scheme.
Secondly, I've also noticed engraved panel lines and rivets are highlighted with a dark shade to make them pop. How is that done without making a mess of the paint job?

You know what, YouTube rocks! These are brilliant. I can see the materials that are being used and then watch the application of the technique! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get more into this. Unfortunately I'm beginning the process of moving house and will look at these later tonight, back to the attic!
