I know Airfix makes what looks like an ancient kit for the Sunderland, but are there any good 1/72nd kits for either it or the Liberator in the anti-submarine role?

Mini-craft has put out a few B-24's in their PB4Y classification in the past. I've built a few of them. If you can find their PB4Y model from a few years ago it has the tri-color scheme and decals. Their present release (same kit) is for a white and grey Atlantic sub hunter. These are, of course, in 1/72 scale. In 1/48 scale you need the Revell-o-Gram B-24D and Paragon, or Koster conversion kits. Koster also makes a vacu-formed conversion kit to change the 1/48 B-24D into a PB4Y-2 Priveteer.

Hope this helps

Bill,
Depending if you're looking for the US or Allied versions of the Sub-hunting B-24, there are several things available. For the Allied version, Pavla made a very nice conversion kit for the Liberator GR Mk V in 1/72 scale. Plus Aviaeology put out a very nice decal sheet in 1/72. All of these were based on the Minicraft kit. But of course we now have the Hasegawa kit, depending on your hobby budget !
I can't answer for 1/48th scale - way too big for me !

Hope this helps you a little, Good Luck................................Bruce

Thanks, Bruce, I have the RoG U-boat in my stash, and built the Monogram B-24 in 1/48th, so thought an ASW bomber would be a nice addition to the sub. I am not familiar with either of those companies. Who in the States carries them?
