Hi all
yesterday I've had it with that darn oils on my Corsair and I pulled out another model from the stash. Jean-Luc's recent resin-mania led me to try Rest models very nice Heinkel He 112V6. Ruslan kindly sent me the upgrade kit last Christmas so I no longer had an excuse ... except that it is a resin kit.
So yesterday while browsing my stack I thought it would be a nice project to put back in the box when the oil paint is dry. First I separated the new and old parts. I cut out the doors, then I cleaned and glued some parts and before I new it the pit was ready for some colour (I put in all of the stuff, because knowing me I would scew every paint job I did before glueing ... especially when CA is involved) I also worked a bit on the wing and tail. Finally I primed the cockpit so it can get some RLM 02 today.
This is by far the best resin kit I ever had. Minimal or no pouring blocks .. the fit is perfect and trailing edges of the wings are sharp as a knife .. it is really fun to build it.
all the best
Steffen

Hi Steffen,
A resin kit of a prototype!? Who is mad enough to do that and when is your next visit to the doctor?
Jokes aside, I will follow your build of course!

Greets Jean-Luc
said the man who builds his self designed resin kits
Well, this was combat tested and e.g. Wilhelm Balthasar had some success with it agains aircraft and tanks (in SCW) .. the story behind this is very interesting (see Rowans review for a very short version)
cheers

Nice one Steffen!
This really is a fantastic kit (both Ruslan's original release that I reviewed, and the revised version which incorporates some accuracy improvements - hence the update set for anyone who has the original). I'm really looking forward to seeing this finished.
I've been keen to build it myself, because I want to try a thin coat of WEM's Ikarol 201 over the n/m to see if it replicates the apparently dark finish visible in pics of the aircraft.
All the best

Thanks Rowan!
Well, I am progressing quite nicely at the moment, but you are right, the paint job will be a bit tricky (I'll use Alclad and maybe different clear coats)
I finished the pit today. The pedals sit a bit high in it, but I did not want to change that.

Hi Rowan
it is all Ruslan's work .. I just painted the dash 02 and glued it all together with Gators glue .. but you see very few of it, as it sits very faar in the fuselage (remember when you built the I-16 ... similar)
I am still progressing like with no model ever. Tomorrow I will have to add all the small PE for the trim tabs but the crate is already on it's legs and maybe it will get some colour over the weekend ... that would make two probably finished models by early next week ... I can dream can I (alread picked another - actually two with the new Fokker E.V - from the stack .. though that is probably a bit too optimistic)
cheers

Hi Steffen
I'd be fibbing if I claimed not to be jealous! I'm staring at a HUGE (and growing ... ) pile, as I pack The Stash ready for moving Castle Aeroscale to its new country home.
So far, I've found two kits that refuse to fit into even my biggest box - Monogram's B-29, and your "favourite" - Trumpeter's Fw 200! I knew it would be trouble when I bought the dreadful thing!...
All the best

Hi Rowan
good luck moving your stash (an the small rest of your belongings .. the biggest box I have is Revell's Bone ... one hell of a model .. the cockpit section is as long as a standard ww2 fighter ... and has a much larger diameter .. still I want to build it one day as it must be spectacular once finished.
Back to the Heinkel .. I did a few pictures of my progress yesterday .. I am not quite sure if I should proceed adding the PE or if I should paint it first and add that stuff later.
it is hard to photograph the pit as narrow as it is.
all the best

Hi Steffen
Looking good. As regards the photo-etch, there are pros and cons to either method. On balance, I'd probably add things like the control linkages very late in the build when they're not likely to get knocked off.
Talking of which, what colour are you going to paint the fabric surfaces?
All the best

Great work Steffen- this aircraft has such lovely lines. I wish all resin models were like this!

Thanks guys!
@Rowan .. well almost all parts to add now are these "control linkages" and I also fear to knock them off .. OTOH I could ruin my finish when adding them late - though I will probably use Kenny's glue. As for the control surfaces (except flaps): flat silver/alu .. rudder white
@Ben .. yeah, I also had some bad experiences .. thus I avoided this project quite a while .. but actually this one is really fun
cheers

Hi Steffen
It looks rather good in black - almost like the early depictions of the Batplane. It just needs scalloped trailing edges and a Bat logo... sacrilege, I know!

Only 5 years for me? I must be getting faster in my old age!
Great work - I'm looking forward to seeing what you do over that silver finish.

Hi Rowan (and all others too)
Well, as you see it is getting slower than I though .. I hate the masking stuff almost as much as cockpits .. still a few more shades to do (at least one) ... but here is a pic how it looks now

Hi Steffen,
Looks great!
I like the different panel shades a lot. Is there a small white surround on the "roundels" or is it the .jpg compression? Anyway, the Rest Model kit seems very good indeed...
