Hi
I'm confused about the camouflage carried by the Hurricane MkIIc in far east service. I've just got the Revell 1/72 kit and it calls for Dark Green and Dark Earth upper surfaces and Med Sea Grey (I think) but any pictures I have seen show what looks like Ocean Grey and Dark Green upper surfaces and Med Sea Grey underneath. Which is correct?
Secondly - is there a decent kit of the Mk I Hurricane? I've just got the Revell 1/72 kit and it has rivets all over the wings! I always thought they were fabric covered wings that didn't need rivets! Is there any kit of this that's better than Revell or Airfix and features nice crisp moulding with recessed panel lines? In fact just like the Revell MkII Hurricanes!
thanks
Mike

hi,
first off there are early mk.1's and late mk.1's.
the early ones mainly pre war/battle of france had the fabric covering until they were changed to metal wings.

i can only speak for some of the 1/48 models...

classic airframes did a really nice early fabric wing hurricane, its hard to find now but did have several different boxings with different markings.

the standard that most 1/48 models are compared to is the hasegawa metal wing version.great detail and moulding.

I did build a revell MkIIc Hurricane in 1/48 and that was quite nice, I believe it may have been an ex Hasegawa moulding but I'm not sure. Anyway, the revell 1/72 Hurricane MkII's are great little kits. I've already done a Sea Hurricane IIc, I'm about to build a MkIIB and MkIIc Trop as well. I will be converting another MkIIB into a MkIID, when I get the aftermarket parts and transfers. The problem is unless I can find a MkI of similar quality, it just won't look right when they would be sat all together!

thanks

People criticise the Hasegawa's overdone fabric effect on the rear fuselage, but I think it looks OK for this scale.

I think only the early Mk.I's had fabric wings.

If you haven't already, take a look at Santiago's thread on BritModeller:

Wow someone has done a lot of research there! I'm not fussed on doing tons of research - i just love building the kits! All I'm after is a nice kit I can build out of the box for the most part but thats what's good about making models - everyone has their own level and does it their own way.
Speaking of the Hasegawa Hurricane - I expected it to be good and I did see that one on ebay. I'm watching it, so we'll see what happens. I like the Revell Hurricane MkII's. i have already done the Sea Hurricane and I'm currently doing the MkIIB and straight after the MkIIC Trop. The last one I'll do is a MkIID based on the Revell MkIIB with aftermarket parts and decals.
thanks
Mike
