I ran into a snag and need to remove some decals on my build. What is the safest way to remove a decal without damaging the paint job underneath?

So long as the paint is hard and there is no dull/gloss coat over the decal, I say take a Q-Tip dabbed in water (HOT/WARM) and wipping leaving a bead of water on the decal. This should soften the decal and glue enough to slid off. I would stay away from any solvents as the my attack the paint.

Pah I find this all to easy to do (ruining a lovely decal) If you have not coated with future or other varnish. Rubbed down masking tape will lift it off quicker than you can say "oh B&lls where has that decal gone"
If you've coated it with varnish you have to rub it down. If you want you save the decal try a setting agent microset to lift it off you might be successful but you might not it is a kinda risky thing.

Thanks to all for the prompt response. I was able to remove the damaged decal with a piece of sticky tape but it took a small bit of paint along with it. That was not an issue because the replacement decal covered the damage done. Thanks again,
