i'm actualy building this on the armorama site in the dioramas section where the full build article can be seen

it is of an actual event where spitfire vb xr*c no aa855 of 71 eagle squadron was on a straffing run on a train in german held territory when it was struck by debris from the train and was braught down by its own actions

i'm working off a photo that shows german troops inspecting the aircraft

if any spit gurus have further info regarding pilot or country year etc i would be greatfull

Nice one Paul

That's a verry neat scene. I particularly like the detail on the German figure holding the map.

One small thing though, I think that style of propeller was wooden (there's a detailed discussion of the various wooden blades lHERE), so the blades would snap off, rather than bend in a crash landing.

All the best

Rowan

If you look at Paul's reference pics of the actual event in his build blog the prop blades are clearly bent, not broken!

https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/144166&page=1

That is the nice thing about building based on a real photo,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the camera never lies!

Unless it is a photo-shop photo.

Nice work Paul

Hi Nige

You're right - but if you look closely, you'll see that it's not the same sort of propeller. It looks like a de Havilland metal-bladed prop, not the Rotol wooden type fitted on Paul's model.

All the best

Hence the the thinness at the air screw end in the photo compared to the thick junction on the model. I see what you mean now Rowan.

Time to pinch a prop off another kit.

Still like the model.

Nige

it is quite possibly wrong as it is an old airfix vb although i got sent the prop out of someones airfix spares box

although good kits when released time has seen better offerings come along even from airfix
something to look out for in future as i also thaught there was something not quite right looking

i can only plead build eagerness !! if i'd spotted that i would have sanded to shape !! never mind its stopping that way now as it doesn't realy upsett the applecart too much

but teach me to be more observant next time

odd how sometimes it is the most glaring thing you miss !!
