Hi all
I've just started building this kit from Tamiya and the box art shows the rudder and trim tab as different colours from the fuselage but nothing is shown in the painting instructions.Could someone clarify this for me please?
regards

Both are correct. Pics show the rudder as being silver at some time. It seems to be a different shade of silver as if it was replaced in the field without a getting a paint job. Most pics, however, show it being the same blue as the nose.

Not knowing this specific kit, I can't comment, however, based on work my club did for a Tuskegee Airmen display at the New England Air Museum, trim tabs were often painted a different color. I think this was to help identify either the pilot or the squadron, but I'm not sure. I have a post card of a -D with the classic red tail and yellow tabs.

Thanks for the info chaps,it's much appreciated.I must say that i'm amazed at the quality of this kit,it seems to have just fallen together.I would say that it is possibly one of the best i've ever made.

:-) I have this kit, been saving it until I have experimented with bare metal finishes. What method will you use?

I have used 3 coats of Humbrol Metalcote 27003 applied at least 8 hours apart and it looks ok,nowhere near as good as alclad would though.

:-) I'm in the process of putting together the old Arii Mustang, now marketed by Airfix, to have a go at using aluminium foil. From previous experiments I think it might turn out better than Alclad :-)
