Hi!

I wonder how many kills Ira had on his plane when making the emergency landing on Bunker Hill 11th November 1943 during the battle of the Solomons. Or where those his first four kills?

Cheers

Hi Janne,

I have just read a small article on Ira Kepford, and it has his squadron arriving in the Solomons for land-based operations on October 27 1943. There are no mentions of any victories prior to the November 11 USS Bunker Hill episode. VF-17 had only landed on the carrier to refuel and encountered the Japanese force after taking off again. This would indicate that the four victories that day were his first, but I certainly stand to be corrected.

Cheers, Damian
