Something I'd love to do is a "rising sun" campaign.
That would be : any plane flown by the japanese air force or navy, anytime, in japanese colors...
There could be plenty of zeros, any Ki, F86, F4, F15... mitsibishi T1 or T2... plenty of stuff !
For the people doing WWII stuff, it would be a good occasion to work at "extreme" weathering !
That would be for later, after the naval aviation campaign.

What do you think about it ?

If people are only interested in WWII, and also want to portray US and RAF, we could change this to a pacific war campaign.

I'd be up for a "Rising Sun" campaign. I'd like to see it restricted to Japanese aircraft only, though. I think campaigns should be somewhat restrictive and I see a lot "stretching" at the boundries after the campaign has initially been laid out.

Count me in if it's sometime next year . Have a 1/48 Monogram Zero A6M2 which I'd love to superdetail, esp in the cockpit areas. Would also give me a chance to try out some extreme weathering techniques!

I had actually toying with this idea, my concept was slightly different. I kinda thinking a campagin that features Pacific Theater of War, so the US builder can do wildcat or corsair, etc.

but I am in.

Or you could have the best of both worlds: have a pure Jap only campaign followed by a US Pacific theater campaign. Either way, all of us will be kept busy at the beginning of next year #:-) !!

I have an Academy 1/48 F4U-1D Corsair or a 1/48 Monogram F4F Wildcat waiting in the wings for this...

BP.

Hi folks

I'd be up for a Rising Sun campaign... I've got a bunch of Japanese planes waiting to be built. It'd be the perfect chance to try out the FSM "Salt" technique for the weathering! :-)

A general Pacific War campaign would be great too... allowing all the Allies would give a wide variety of colour schemes and aircraft.

Count me in for either! :-)

All the best

:-) Count me in (hopefully) for a rising sun campaign. I agree with Tim, restricted to Japanese planes we can see how we each handle extream weathering :-) Just need the 1/32 Zero for Christmas :-)

OK guys, I'm coming back to this thread to make my proposition :

"Rising Sun Campaign"

subject : any japanese plane, any era
That could be a japanese built plane flown under japanese colors, or a plane built somewhere else flying under japanese colors.

There are many possibilities : spad XIII, bf109E, zero, tony, hien (well, plenty of WWII stuff), F86 sabre, F4 phantom, kawasaki T2, F15 eagle...

categories could be :
- pre-war in China
- war in China and in the pacific
- modern

or :
- fighter
- bomber
- others

or :
- beginner
- intermediate
- expert

time for the campaign : - beginning december the 24th 2003
- last day of March 2004
Three months should be right for that campaign.

All there will be to win : a ribbon !

Interesting aspects :
- plenty of possibilities, from yesterday and today
- there are plenty of kits available, some cheap, some expensive..
- for WWII, you can realy work at the WEATHERING of your aircraft
- plenty of japanese aircraft have colorful markings
- the ribbon will be easy to design

Your ideas guys ?

Hi penpen

Count me in for sure!! :-)

Maybe the "foreign" types could include captured Allied aircraft... I've got an old Aeromaster (I think) sheet with a captured P-51 that would be pretty neat to do... :-)

I'll also have a bash at some "extreme" weathering on a WW2 Japanese type - something I've been wanting to try for a while.

Timing of the campaign sounds great - I'll watch out for more details... :-)

All the best

:-) Count me in, timing sounds fine. I like the first 3 categories. I might do a Zero but will brobably do one of the float planes that I have :-)

Sounds good!
I need an excuse to put aside the armor for a bit and finally build that Tamiya 1/32 Zero that's been sitting in the closet!

Major Gereral Penpen:
I would like to see different scale divisions with winners in each and then best in campaign.

Hi penpen,

Though the idea seems good, the scope is a little too large, IMHO .

Why don't we stick to a WW II Jap Group build? That way, most of us could work on the weathering aspect, and learn from each other. Otherwise, if quite a few go off doing post WWII or pre WWII stuff, then it would not result in as much an exchange of ideas..

My 2cents. Anyway I have a A6M2 Type 52 lined up for the campaign. What do the rest of the folks say?

Cheers,
BP.

Hi Byte

I know what you mean... but there's a danger it could turn into the Extreme Weathering Campaign! It would be a shame to exclude the pre- and post-war types, or find entries were penalised for looking factory-fresh!

I think one of the beauties of penpen's idea is the scope is offers and I look forward to seeing some entries from eras other than WW2. :-) (But I admit I'll be trying some heavy WW2 weathering... :-) )

All the best

Whiterook :
To be honnest, I don't feel like organizing something "contest like", with "winners".
For me, what's most interesting in the campaign is exchangng ideas and seeing other peoples work. This also means that for me, everyone who finishes the campaign is a winner and deserves a nice ribbon.

It is possible to expend the categories a bit :
- pre-war in China 1/72 and lower
- " 1/48 and up

- war in China and WWII 1/72 and lower
...

But I wonder if it doesn't make too many categories.
Sabot told us his method : KISS, Keep It Simple S?

Also, I do like the possibility of building something modern. Typicaly, the markings on the tails of the japanese phantoms look real cool.
But if everyone wants to build WWII, we could make it a war in China and WWII only campaign.
