Attempting to establish just how the wings were folded to store on board a ship. Scharnhorst carried three - one on the cataplut and two in storge. . .how were they stored.

Second attempt lucky !
The wings folded to the rear, hinged about the rear spar. The float to wing struts had to be removed from the float first and folded against the underside of the wing. A short section at the rear of the wing roots folded up on to the top surface of the wing in order to clear the rear float strut.

Iain,
Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!!
Praise the Lord for the beautiful detail photo, which I noted is dated 1942.
I am in the process of building the 700 scale Tamiya 1943 Scharnhorst and have opened up her hangar. My goal is to put one in the hangar and one on the crane
Being new to this forum, I have no idea of how to post pictures, in order to show you my build. If you have no problems with my asking for your email address, I would be honored to share pictures of my ships, planes and armor.
Forgive me. . .I do NOT know what I am doing on this site!!

Hi Gus,
Glad to help. Good luck doing it in 1/700 scale!
If you upload photos to Photobucket or similar first, you just copy the IMG by clicking on it and drag it into your reply where you want it to appear. My first attempt failed because I usually don't use the IMG on other sites and acted on autopilot! There is an "Image help" button in the top and bottom of the thread on the right hand side. Give it a try and add another string to your bow!
